Hi, how do I transfer my Unity Pro, Asset Server License key from 1 PC to another?
Each serial is good for 2 installs, so if you are simply installing to a second machine, go right ahead and install using the serial.
if you already have used your two activations you can e-mail us at support@unity3d.com and request a license migration to a new machine. ![]()
ahhh icic that’s great
thanks alot for the info cheers! 8)
hey,
How often does Unity check to see whether someone is running two copies simultaneously on two different machines? How much time should I leave between logging off the work machine and starting Unity at home? I’m on a Pro license btw.
Does this mean that if I have pro, I can use it on two of my computers?
Hey CC,
If you read the license for Unity at this address-
http://unity3d.com/unity/unity-end-user-license-2.x
You’ll see that you have the ability to install your 2.x version on up to 2 machines, though you can only use it on one machine at a time.
“How much time should I leave between logging off the work machine and starting Unity at home?”
If you are already logged off at work, then logging on at home is not simultaneous.
And you’re right of course. I see that. However I’m looking for information about how Unity checks for simultaneous uses. Whether it checks online and if there’s a delay.
Considering Unity can be run without a network, it is doubtful they check. They, of course, can check while you have internet, but the end of the message is : 1 license per person. I don’t know why you’d need to run two instances of Unity at the same time.
I just monitored network traffic. It connects to some update checker at updatecheck.unity3d.com. There seems to be no license related data in that. Another funky thing is, that it connects to google-analytics and sends all kind of funky parameters, so I guess one could roll statistics on this one. Anyways, for all practical purposes, two installations on two machines should work perfectly as long as they are not open simultaneously, which should answer your question.
Thanks Kork, that was very helpful. I’ll make sure I only run one copy of two at a time.

To be clear, it doesn’t do that sort of thing at all, the network traffic noted by kork is unrelated. On launch Unity checks for the proper license file information to validate you as using Unity [free] versus Unity Pro versus Unity Pro with Unity iPhone Pro, etc., but it doesn’t look for other active copies of the same license on a network. We do however want to add that sort of functionality into the product, but mostly for the sake of being more flexible when dealing with volume licensees like schools and universities that want licenses to float (for example: sixty machines in a lab have Unity installed, only the first 20 light up and can be used).
