Extend pong, try having power ups, the ball speed increasing over time etc.
Did you make pong 2 player or does the player play against an AI? Do whatever one you didn’t do.

Hi!

You can visit this page - http://noobtuts.com/unity . There are 16 full and detail tutorials of many games - from Arkanoid to Angry Birds (with sprites included). Choose what you like:) But there are some demo-tutorials (they marked as “Premium”), and for full access you need by a premium.

Good luck!

Thanks!

Make a 2D platformer.

I think a simple Space Invaders clone is a good beginner project. It teaches you some pretty interesting and fundamental concepts.

I had a similar experience at an IDGAM meeting the other night. There were several recent graduates from game dev school. Most of them looked at me blankly when I asked “So what are you working on now”. Even worse were the game designers who “had no ideas at the moment”. What’s the point of a game designer with no designs?

I think this is what happens when a person wants/needs the identity of “game designer”. It’s part of their self image. They get all they need by simply saying, “I am a game designer.” That’s all they require. Same reason why someone “plays in a band” but always misses practice, or “goes to the gym” but they never make any gains.

There’s the need for an identity, and then there’s the identity that comes from actually doing a thing, and many people cannot tell that there is even a distinction between the two.

Hence game designers who do not design games, writers who do not write, guitar players who cannot play their instrument.

I think what we are witnessing here on this forum is people struggling to establish their identity as a game designer by designing at least something, and even that is too much for them, so they feel like asking us what they should design is at least some “activity” in the direction of their aim. Sort of like, reading a book about snowboarding and telling people you’re training to be an Olympic snowboarder

Posting here satisfies the nagging part of the brain that says, “No, you’re not.”

I can see that. It reminds me of @Gigiwoo 's rule about not telling people about your new ideas. The identity stress that comes from not telling other people actually drives motivation and action.

lol… maybe its an age thing. I have heaps of ideas, but a lot are just remakes of games I used to enjoy playing. Nothing ive played in the last 10 years have I wanted to do my own version of.
