You know how epic games published fortnite??
well it’ll be cool if unity did the same by like publishing a game because IMO tech demos aren’t you know that exciting (I mean i like them but I like games more) you know because instead of just showing at a tech convention “this is what you can do in unity” they should be like “this is what WE did in unity and you can try it out…” for starters the HDRP FPS sample was good…
( I really hope I’m making sense because I’m in a hurry right now and don’t have much time to write this…
)
Personally I think they should, as they could push the engine to all its limits and produce something gorgeous.
However, I think this topic has already been discussed here:
Multiple times actually.
So, inb4 closed.
Perfect timing this was on the Unity Discord server.
read the last questions from the interview:
They def are taking a step in that direction (not just unity fps) but I doubt they cross into publishing.
Check this recent twitter conversation, and in particular the couple of replies from Will Goldstone.
Oh cool, that’s what I’d like core R&D working on. Something other than the engine.
Id be fine with this if they hired an entire new division for it, but not if current resources are diverted towards it.
Have a couple more links. ![]()

We’ve just about discussed everything there is to discuss about this topic.
Competing directly with your core customers is a bad idea…
Indeed, it has been discussed over and over. And over again. Ultimately unity’s business plan seems to be working for them, despite everyone providing their ‘advice’. Gonna to close this as very redundant. If unity announces something new, the topic will be fair game. For now it is just beating a dead horse.
