Introduction & Summary
Hello, I’m komehara and with my team, we’ve been working on sci-fi x climbing-themed escape game Visual Novel Starship Breakers: Alpha for the Josei Jam 2025 (May-June 2025). We released the game at the start of July, however, it is still incomplete, about halfway done.
We decided to keep working on the game for the following jam Sunofes (July-August 2025). 2 character artists contributed to the game so far, but they don’t have time to keep working for Sunofes, so we are looking for a new character artist to design the new characters who will appear in the remaining scenes, as well as drawing existing characters in different poses for CG (special in-game illustrations) and promotional art.
Reminder: this is unpaid work on a non-commercial project. It may lead to a commercial project (the sequel) in the future, but I cannot guarantee this as it depends on the success of this jam game.

What are the primary genres/categories that your project fits into and what platform are you initially planning to target?

Concept
The player plays as Patricia, a student who dropped climbing after failing at a local tournament, and who takes part in an escape game playtest to get some money.
During the game, the player solves puzzles via simple point-and-click interactions to complete the escape game prototype.
Note: The escape game was originally thought for a bigger game featuring a team of players, but I wanted to test the Visual Novel framework with a smaller game first. While it may be seen as a prologue, it remains a standalone story.
Progress
For the current version in development (which is a bit ahead of the version on itch.io):
- 6 core team members: 1 writer/programmer/manager, 1 composer, 1 sound designer, 1 background artist, 2 UI/graphic designers (possibly 3)
- 2 former character artists who established character design for 3 out of 6 characters
- 7 scenes out of 13
- 1 puzzle out of 2
- 17mn of play out of 30mn
- 7 finished backgrounds + 3 BG sketches (1 left)
- 8 BGM out of 10

What We Are Looking For
- 2D character artist
- must understand with Visual Novel conventions (flippable thigh-up sprites, CG…)
- rigorous with export formats (export single or multiple png layers targeting 4K resolution)
- must be able to work with the team on Discord (most work is done asynchronously, with a few call meetings, so timezone just needs a little overlap with Paris UTC+2)
- bonus for ability to clone Git project and test game directly in Unity
Tasks
- design and export sprites for 3 new characters (male characters of varied ages) while following the existing character art style
- redraw the main character in new poses for ~4 CG and ~2 promotional artworks
- polish existing character sprites by cleaning lines and adding ~3 layers of shading and colored lighting to match different rooms
