What am I paid for by using Unity Ads? Views, clicks or installs?

Hi.
Just started to use Unity Ads and it’s not clear what exactly am I paid for.
Views, completed views, clicks or installs?

Revenue is calculated by our servers, using a number of factors including installs, completed views, and user quality.

Thank you.
But it sound like there’s no sense of using “skipable” ads. Right?

For most implementations, the skip option can reduce your completed views.

We recommend that you always incentivize users to watch ads, (by offering in-game currency or consumable rewards) so that they watch the whole ad.

Incentivizing ads has shown to consistently improve user engagement, and overall revenue.

Like Fritz said, we do recommend using rewarded ads first and foremost. When you use rewarded ads, you’re engaging with your users rather than just passively showing ads, which has a proven track record of yielding higher quality impressions.

The option to skip is there primarily for user-experience reasons. If you do passively show ads without first presenting the user with the option to watch (for an in-game reward), the ads should be skippable. In some cases, developers have chosen to make their rewarded ads skippable as well, in the event the user decides they don’t really want to watch the ad. In this case, you would alert the player that the reward was not granted because the ad was skipped.

In any case, you should always check to see if a user has skipped an ad before granting a reward, even if the ad isn’t skippable. Even if the user can’t choose through the interface to skip an ad, there are still cases where ads can be skipped. Outside of pressing the skip button, ads are skipped when:

  • If the app is sent to the background, the ad is skipped and the user is presented with the end card when the return to the game. The ShowResult will be Skipped in this case.
  • If a “video playback error” occurs, the ad is skipped and the user is presented with the end card. The ShowResult will be Skipped in this case.

On the other hand, if the video fails to start, the ShowResult will be Failed.
