Just wanted to ask. I need them for a few things.
Why is Day Job not on your list?
For 500 McDonalds is probably a quicker option then game development. None of the methods you mentioned are especially quick
You could also look at
- Freelance contracting
- Government grants
- Tutoring
- Crowd funding
Getting a job is the only way to be sure to earn money. You probably stand a better chance of winning $500 playing the lottery than getting it from a random asset on the asset store.
Because we all here are for game Dev ![]()
Have to agree with @drewradley , @LaneFox , and @Kiwasi . And, even under 18, there certainly must be ‘off-the-books’ kinds of jobs like yardwork, babysitting, or apprenticeships. Any of those is a faster route.

Well,… you can buy a short skirt and stand on a street corner. ![]()

Then ask your parents/guardians as you cannot even sell on the asset store either.
And where do you live that 16 cannot legally work?
Game Dev sitting in cool air of AC would be better ![]()
Already done it, but the first asset is always the hardest one to get accepted so…
There may be so but in India (or at least in area I live) its almost impossible to find so. And I am so weak in any physical work.
The fastest/easiest way is probably just to get a mcdonalds job
Haha, so true, I am amazed how peoples thinks it rains with money on game dev side.
Ever played Grand Theft Auto?
Don’t get me wrong, you can make money on making indie games. Its just not a fast process.
I wish I can get its money in real life ![]()
From the choices you offer. I’d say it is more likely to make $500 with the AssetStore in the shortest amount of time.
But that isn’t easy either, nor is it really fast.
You have to create something worthwhile that people actually want and that takes some time to produce. But at least it’s not as crowded as the mobile app stores and people willing to pay decent money if your product is good.
Not to mention if you make assets that are not game engine dependent (ie artwork assets), then you can spread them to other stores like the Unreal and Stingray marketplaces.
Sell your computer. ![]()
It really depends on your skills. If game dev is the only option then I’d say contract work, but if you don’t have a folio of work then it might be hard to get contracts.
The most fitting answer to this question is of course, make an mmo!
Sorry couldn’t resist…
