I was just wondering if the community had any funnies or weird feedback they received from people who have played/seen their games, if so, what was it?
I guess my dumbest one so far is somebody said they wouldn’t buy my game because it had a ‘Like us on Facebook’ icon on the screenshot of the main menu
No. I find it best not to interact with those kinds of people. As Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”
Well it was basically one guy who couldnt figure out how to play the game. There is a big blue text uptop telling him what to do - spawn the units but I guess he couldnt read english. There were other people who actually did give comments where they couldnt figure it out and that was in the US store.
Not dumbest, just the usual miss-informed over-assuming client;
“It’s easy to do and won’t be long, let’s just add animated avatars and make them give branching feedback through interaction with the player.” (not exact words)
Client during project definition phase
Pretty much anything that comes out of a client’s mouth that follows “It’s easy, …” makes me do:
I always love the. ‘You were right, lets do what you said instead’ remark after doing what your client asked even tho you put forward the fact that IT WILL NOT WORK WELL. Inevitabile amounting in 2x the amount of work you would have to do. Not game comment related, but still something dumb customers say. Saying that, i’ve worked with some really awesome client, I really love it when the client is enthusiastic and are always throwing sketches/concepts down my throat. Makes my job much easier.
lols, while some could argue that this is a correct perception (after all a screen really only has an x,y), doubts the customer was thinking about it that way.
For a living I make websites… the game thing is a hobby for me.
But this comic pretty much sums it up:
True Story: A looooong time ago probably around 1998 or so. I was the head tech guy at an Internet web/dialup company. We were developing a porn site for someone. They provided the images (we were just programming). We built the site (with the images they gave us) and showed it to them… and the client said … over the phone to us: “It’s not doing it for me… I WANT TO SMELL IT THROUGH THE SCREEN!”
… now you all try sleeping at night after someone says that.
I told them they’re looking for a generalist and that I don’t suit what they’ve wanted and to find someone else. I had already taken the job; but they knew I was a programmer before I joined. Not an artist.
Maybe this was someone who owed a 3DS and that’s what they meant by not been in 3D lol …suddenly picture a guy wearing red/cyan glasses or polarized ones looking at your game going “I’ve been ripped off gerrrrr I’ll give them a 1 star review” Hay at least you got 1 star
