Hello my fellow Unity devs! I’m co-hosting our first big Game Jam event from April 1st-15th! We’ve got a super fun theme and arranged for $5,000 in cash and prize rewards. Plus, top entries may get featured on our YouTube channel which has millions of subscribers!
We’re an indie gamedev studio that uses Unity for our projects and we want to help other indie devs succeed! I hope you’ll check out the event and help us spread the word.
You are not allowed to use generative AI to make art or audio assets for your game, or your game page. This will lead to the game being disqualified.
You may want to clarify whether this forbids all uses of AI, or whether it is allowed to use AI to solve problems, to write the game description, to translate texts, to generate code, etc.
AI generated content is the norm these days, it is not “cringe” as you write. AI is a tool, its results do largely depend on the skill of the prompt engineer. Since you won’t be able to truly assess whether submissions are partially AI generated, such “no AI” restrictions in jams these days is going to complicate matters for everyone involved.
It’s better to let the results speak for themselves because the kind of “cringe” you expect from AI will stand out in a negative way, and is unlikely to get upvoted much. On the other hand, what if someone intentionally goes for a “cringe AI” look and feel? Anyone who’d like to explore this would discard the idea (self censor) to avoid getting disqualified.
