Hi, I’m thinking about making a game maker in Unity, see my idea is to have a multiplatform game maker that lets users design sprites (made from hair, face and torso) write story, make cutscenes and all that jazz, users can then download these and play them.
There will be a free app to play the games and the actual editor will cost 99c, with in app purchases for new tilesets etc.
I have a few questions though regarding this idea, these are:
Do you think this could be a commercial success?
People could potentially make rude text etc, how would this go on the appstore?
Indeed, but I guess it will be as complex as I make it, I will probably start out with it being rather simple, just allowing people to place buildings, characters, make people do things when the character interacts with them, inventories, shops etc.
Indubitably, it will work on all platforms Unity supports, though on some like the Webplayer and Flash there will only be a game player, that is due to it being hard to sell a web game.
Funny you should call it “game maker”, I use Game maker studio for 2D stuff and I am satisfied with it. It doesn’t do vector graphics, and it’s 3D capabilities are very limited, but the extremely high level functions in GML (Game maker language) are what got me into coding. Game maker is the Unity of 2D IMO. You can prototype extremely fast with it, the work flow is smooth.
If you made something for unity that made it like having game maker studio in unity, that would be badass. Game maker has folders to the left side, (from the top) Sprites, Sounds, Backgrounds (tileable), Paths (pathfinding), Scripts (support scripts), Fonts, Time Lines, Objects, Rooms (scenes), Included Files, Extensions.
I would like a gamer maker where I can program in java-US and publish as a Unity game, plus have the added tools of unity at my disposal.
