A newer version of Unity Web Player is required, but the auto-update download failed.

I have been doing the download install cycle for a few days now. It seems that Unity decides to stop working whenever I get interested in Battlestar Galactica Online (four or five times now), which may be an indication of why their player base has drastically fallen off. Live Demo shows the error. Other Unity games show the error. Going to the unity cache page shows the error.

Anyway, I receive the message
A newer version of Unity Web Player is required, but the auto-update download failed.
and I’m asked to manually download the webplayer to correct the error.

The latest webplayer I’m able to get is
Version of your web player
Unity Plugin version: 4.3.4f1

I’m using Revo Uninstall, CCleaner, Malwarebytes (the last couple of installs), Nortons 360 to make sure I’m getting everything removed and ready for the next attempt. The browsers I’m testing on are Chrome (preferred since Unity runs fastest on it), IE 10, Firefox 24(? its updating again).

As many posters have mentioned there seems to be a cycle of uninstalling, downloading, installing that never seems to end. I even took the two days to download the full gigabyte unity package that I really, really didn’t want to do. Neither source of the webplayer resolved the update bug.

A computer search confirmed that I don’t have the IDM (Internet Download Manager) installed. I’m downloading the exe files to my computer and installing from there, so it shouldn’t be a cab/proxy issue.

Let me know what you guys think. I’m so frustrated with Unity.

What OS are you on? Have you tried installing it as an admin? Does http://unity3d.com/webplayer/setup work or do you get the same error there?

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, as admin is yes, and sorry I didn’t recall that the cache was actually called the Settings page which does error.

In another post, Link Here, he mentions three directories, Loader, Mono, and Player. I’m noticing that the loader directory is installed, but the other two are not.

(I just replied to that other post)

when i play any game with unity web player it says the unity web player needs your permission to run but there is nothing comming on the screen

I have the same issue but it is only for some games. I have the newest version of unity… its really irritating I have uninstalled reinstalled 100x also tried older versions running with ie and firefox, issue is on both browsers. I have tried installing as administrator as I’m on windows 7 prof. My virus definitions are up to date. I have reinstalled the browsers, cleared cache. When on another computer with same exact versions it runs fine… Ive also ran malware bytes with no issues.
