Abou unity free limitations and 2Dtoolkit solution.

Hi there I’m planing to make a 2D platformer and am curious about using unity free.
For me atm buying the pro version is not an option and frankly not that much of an objective really.
All i need are basic 2d tools so all the 3d gimmics that come with Pro seem overkill.
I don’t mind the splash particularly, heck i’d even keep the splash if that gave me a discount if I ever buy Pro.
Anyways my question is, is unity free usable for making a platformer? Will I have access to all the needed 2d physics for instance?
Also, its possible to publish to mobile plats. with unity free right?
Another thing, can the limitations of unity free be overcome with the 2Dtoolkit asset?

Unity looks great, I’ve done game programming in the past and am looking to go back to it.
Frankly 2Dtoolkit looks like it will substitute buying Pro for the time being.

Any other comments and suggestions please contribute. I’m looking at all alternatives atm.

Cheers.

Heck yeah… Use Unity to make platformer, it has really healpfull tools for 2d developers. And you will be having acces to all of the 2d physics (if im not wrong, but im making a 2D game for 6monts now, and i never had a problem using unity free ATM.).

Have you used 2D toolkit?

I’m currently using spriter(recommended) for any animation so unity free’s lack of IK rigs or whatnot in mecanim wont be an issue.
But I’m still wondering about the rest.
I’m familiar with c# though so that should help.
Thanks for the input.

You will be more than satisfied with the free version, trust me. Really nothing except the splash screen is relevant to 2D gameplay in Unity Pro so go for it!
