Call out to Unity Game Devs can your provide sales stats on your games please?

I’m keen to see what people have created with Unity and the kind of income those products have generated?

Just rough figures will do here but if you have a blog with the sales stats, postmortems ect on please put up a link?

Rules: the game must be published by you and be made with Unity, please do not speculate on other game studios potential sales.

And look no poll! :stuck_out_tongue:

I post my App Store unit sales on http://fugugames.com/

Could you give us an idea of how that equates to the income in dollars please?

It varies, but I’ve been averaging around a thousand a month for the last several months. But it took ma a while to get there.

technicat Thank you for sharing.

OK here’s mine:

$23.04 from my games on Kongregate*

My approach as a start-up solo indie was taken from the idea of building small game/prototypes and releasing them as test cases for player feedback. I used Kongregate as a testbed for the games potential and the theory was if it was a success on their I would earn some income and then be able to extend/complete and launch the games on other platforms.

*NB Kongregate will only pay out when the revenue stream reaches 25, so revenue from 1 year with Unity 0, or negative if you factor in the licensing fees (yes I paid for basic Android and iOS before they went free!).

I have also released Zombie Gnomes attack on Android but due to very poor sales I set it to free.

It’s hard work making average games, very hard to make good games, and it takes time to learn how to game great games!

Then you have to know how to make money from them!

It looks like you make a higher ratio of profit from your more expensive titles.

$23 is pretty poor and not really an income … maybe kongregate doesn’t work that well?

Kongregate is often a terrible source of income unless you have a very good game that gets thousands of plays a day (think bloons, etc).

Note Kongregate only pays out via paypal when advertisement royalties hits $25, income is $0 so far, although at current rate of $0.52 a month I should be eligible for the first payment in November!

Kongregate is a very poor source of income unless your game utilizes Kreds. I watched a presentation by their CFO, and they get 80%+ of their revenue from just ~140 kreds-enabled games. All said and done, you get about $1 per 1000 plays, which equates to about a $1000 per 1 million plays. So, even Bloons makes a very tiiiiny portion of their total in-take from ads.

This is definitely something im interested in hearing.
I didn’t manage to get into university this year, so im counting on making a game with either unity or the udk, using that cash to study at a university overseas.
So knowing how much these unity devs making if theyre willing to share that info is helpful.

was asked to post here so I shall, here’s my gross income from unity stuff to date:

  • Lottie’s Dungeon (pre-orders available Oct 2010-Dec 2011): £396.65 (~$620)
  • Sarah’s Run (preview) (released on kongregate Jan 2011): $6750 competition winnings, $776.40 ad revenue
  • BOXGAME (released on kongregate Feb 2011): $373.60 ad revenue
  • Pixexix Pro (released April 2011): £390 (~$610)
  • Swift*Stitch (released December 2011): $1627.28
  • Rose &Time (released April 2012): $964 as my share from the indie buskers ‘bundle’, $17.50 as direct sales from my site
  • SPLAT DEATH SALAD (released on kongregate Jun 2012): $1.49 ad revenue

So my rough gross income from unity projects is $11,740.27

Technicat - Tell us more. Is most of that revenue from ad sales? Do you have an iAP to remove ads? What ad networks are you using?

So Kongregate :
Ad revenue breakdown:

Step Seq had a weekly 3rd and monthly 2nd place. Those are $150 and $1000 respectively
And the big one was The Child Of Eden Music Game competition that was a win for $10,000

Apart from kongregate I’ve sold a source code license of step seq for £2650 (converts to $4123.40 today) and a non ex. license of drop for $1000

I suppose you want a grand total… $17861 and some change. Not bad. But over 2 years or so, that’s a pretty below average income. I had to go back to full time work as my outgoings are about 4 times that.

Cheers SophieH and quickfingers!

If you know anyone who can contribute to this thread, please ask them to help out?

Thank You

This type of thread actually comes up every now and then, e.g. http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/93625-Unity-iOS-iPhone-Apps-sales-(Updated-thread)

@technicat Nice link, is there similar stats for Android, Flash, PC/Mac, Webplayer?

Heres mine for a good laugh.

I’m sure there are other threads, I think I’ve responded to maybe three of them and probably missed a lot more.
