Can I publish games if I'm under 18 with my parents or guardian's support?

Hi,

I am 13 years old right now, can i publish games made with unity if my parents or a guardian is supporting me.

Unity won’t be the problem, where you want to publish the game will be. Without a parent or guardian’s oversight and permission, most places you can publish a game won’t let you register.

I am trying to first release a free windows game on gamejolt.com or any other website for free games. Also if you know a website distributing free indie games, please tell me.

It seems that itch.io doesn’t have any age requirement for registering, and they host a lot of free indie games, so you could try there.

It tends to be a legal thing. Most countries require you to be 13+ just to share things on the internet, and 16/18+ to sign contracts.

Best option is to put stuff in your parents name until you reach majority.

Well this kid just made $30 million at 17. So I guess you can.

Funny thing Summly. It “reads” articles and gives a summary. But articles already have a summary. It’s called the “headline”. But IDK apparently it’s worth £30 million.

The problem is a publisher/marketplace will want you to agree to certain legal terms as far as use of their services. In most (all?) countries any legal terms or contracts made with a child are unenforceable. The child is not actually bound by any of their responsibilities laid out in the document.

I’d assume itch.io has rules in their TOS about not uploading viruses or stolen software to their service, because that creates liability for itch.io. That is a problem if they have users who are in no way obligated to abide by their TOS.

It depends on your local laws and marketplace rules, but in the UK it’s fine from 16. It is also usually OK if a parent or guardian acts on your behalf, but in their name though.

You aren’t exempt from taxes but don’t let any of this stop you. IMHO a kid should be hungry to work on productive things. Go for it and fix the problems as they come.
