I’m new here and wanted to share some of my work in unity. I’ve been working on a solo project as part of a course i had this last semester where we had to code something in Unity. The whole thing kinda got out of hand and now i’m working on it in my free time. The screens you can see here are from the version i presented for the exam.
(*hint: after clicking “play game”, don’t touch the controls till the character is on screen; i just realised i forgot to disable the controls when he’s walking through the door).
I should warn you though that i built this level in the first place to show off the programming i did for the game (since that was the aim of the course and never really intended that anyone else would be playing this. Long story short: it still needs a lot of work, you’ll probably run into some bugs and not everything is really clear or sometimes just plain weird to play.
Nevertheless; i’d love to hear what you guys think. I’m aware of a lot of things that still need to happen, but I’m always open to feedback and suggestions. I’m hoping to collect enough information so that i can make a level that’s actually enjoyable to play with the assets that i have :).
some extra information:
-everything was made with the free version of unity
-All the models, characters and animations are custom made
-programming was done by me, with some adjusted scripts from the 2d gameplay tutorial that’s available on this site
-all models were created and animated in 3Dsmax and textured using photoshop.
thanks to everyone taking the time to check this out!
I think it’s pretty good. I think the camera needs to be zoomed in a bit closer though. And Ctrl and Alt are a bit awkward to use. Left and right mouse buttons might be better. The level layout is a fairly good start, I only got as far as the elevator that you activate by shooting the button. I fell back down and died and the elevator stays at the top so I could not use it again.
Did you do the artwork as well? or just the programming? The art is very nice.
Overall I think it shows some promise but as always, it will take some time to iron out the bugs and level design and various other unforeseen quirks.
thanks for playing! All the art and programming, animation, concept etc is done by me since it was a one man project. I did get some help with the texturing and modelling of the props because i was running out of time.
I’ll take a look at the camera; I never really noticed it, but it could make everything a bit more clear; thx for the tip. The elevator goes back down when you shoot the trigger again, but it would probably be best if it came back automatically, i’ll fix that.
That’s great work for just one person. How long have you been working on it? Yeah I thought the elevator might come down if I shot the button again but it was very hard to shoot while standing on the conveyer belt. You could put a small platform just before the elevator.
It was a semester project, so about 3 to 4 months; but it’s hard to say in absolute terms since it was one of the minor courses and i had a lot of other work. I did already have some assets from a previous project that i reused.
Rochard was the inspiration for the fore- and background :).
i got a lot of ideas for improvement, now i just need time (working on a few other projects for the moment) :). Is there a place where i can check out the game your working on?
I like it! It’s obviously rough on the edges, but even in this stage it shows the foundations of a good game. Are you planning to continue working on it?
