Crazy awesome NEW Minecraft-like game!

Oh. Yay. Another one.

Whoa, I’ve never seen anything like this before! Not once! Nope! Never! There hasn’t been a time in my life where I haven’t seen another half-baked minecraft clone.

I’m sensing the faint hint of sarcasm and the tinge of pain from your creativeablongata.

@RockoDyne : I was expecting, like a sucker apparently, that the title meant a game with potential. This has no potential.

Of course it has no potential. Even the pitch for the game has to reference another, better game.

ITS MINECRAFT.

but better.

And, looking at the videos, with textures stolen directly from minecraft!

The textures are only very similar, and will be changed as development continues.

Come back and announce once you have something substantial to show. I’ve seen more progress and better results from experimental prototypes in that enormous thread dissecting Minecraft’s internals than those videos are revealing.

Early marketing to gather attention is important, but this is far too early for that.

Oh good. I thought I was the only one who got that feeling. Good to see I’m not the only one.
Very similar feeling to Candy whatever and Flappy who cares.

@IDA_king100 - just wanted to confirm, this is something that YOU are working on or just a link to something that you saw and you were interested in? You haven’t really been clear in your post.

I found this funny: I was watching the video, and a Minecraft ad was placed across the bottom.

Minecraft was successful because it filled a particular niche, scratched an itch for gamers. It was also incredibly lucky with exposure and YouTube developing. It was the right thing in the right place at the right time, change any of those and it wouldn’t have been successful.

It is now old, hundreds of similar titles have been released and people are no longer interested in it. After all if they feel like playing it, well Minecraft already exists.

You won’t have a successful game by copying/cloning another one. I’d suggest funneling your efforts elsewhere unless you’re doing this purely for a learning exercise.

It’s MineBetter

I wouldn’t say that people aren’t interested in it anymore - it’s still the #2 app in the iOS app store for downloads, and the first one is … still Minecraft related.

It would certainly be fair to say: why would anyone download the Minecraft clones when Minecraft already exists and (let’s face it) is better.

I’m, of course, still making a blocky voxel engine as well. I know people will call it a Minecraft clone because it’s blocky. I chose blocky because building doesn’t work well with marching cubes/dual contouring from my experience (but it has slopes and other non-cubic blocks as well).

However, mine has a very special focus that will take it rather far away from Minecraft and will target a group of people who aren’t satisfied by what Minecraft offers - I’ve spoken with these people, and I’m also one of them.

If you’re just cloning Minecraft, though, which seems to be the case in this topic as well… please just do it for learning experience.

Plus Minecraft has an established modding community surrounding it allowing you to easily extend your experience. You stand to get a considerable amount of value from Minecraft. I know I have spent more time on it than most other games.

My primary complaint about these clones is that they don’t try to solve the problems still plaguing Minecraft. One of those is simply that modding is a big chore for the community. They literally have to reverse engineer each and every release in order for even basic modding to take place. Minecraft needs proper modding support.

No its MineBetter
