Hi,
I just got my Samsung S7 and a Gear VR device.
I am pretty impressed by the video examples, but bright areas appear VERY flickering to me.
It looks like 25hz to me.
What´s the reason behind this?

EDIT:
When you hold a finger on the distance sensor and “open” the Gear VR while keeping the phone connected
you can see the app running directly on the phone.
And indeed its flickering like hell, compared to Non-VR (Unity) Apps.
So I assume that the display refreshrate is decreased while connected to the GearVR???
Where can I set the refresh rate?
not sure about your issue but just wanted to bring up that you dont have to do the following
“When you hold a finger on the distance sensor and “open” the Gear VR while keeping the phone connected
you can see the app running directly on the phone.”
if you turn on developer mode you can run gear vr apps without putting it in the gear vr.
Low persistence mode (anti motion blur mode that inserts black frames between updates).
The flickering in the gear vr developer mode make me very nauseated and almost want to throw up. Is there any fix for that?
Ive had this issue recently and one day in particular it was really bad. It was coming up to a deadline so I hadnt sleep as much as I’d wanted and it was frustrating me like hell. In the end I had to submit it and hope the client didnt notice it. He didnt which was great.
I went back after the project had been submitted and after Id had a bit of time away from it and I didnt notice it at all. I was confused. Then today, I was looking at the app again while working with a client and I saw the flicker again. literally nothing has changed except my energy levels. When I was well rested, I saw no flicker, when I was tired I saw a lot. So, maybe its only me, but I think energy levels have a little to do with how bad someone sees the flicker. This is probably useless to the majority of people reading this if its for commercial reasons you are making an App, but it put me at ease in my case as it was for a private client. Also other people I tested it with, didnt see any flicker even when I tried to point it out.
Get some sleep folks ![]()
