Maybe it’s me… but is there anyone who wants to create a game that isn’t a MMO or RTS type of game?? I have nothing against those types of games… and i do love playing them. But after reading so many forums and postings… i can’t seem to find any one who likes sports games… is it me??
It’s not just you. Advice: stay stealthy so the MMO trolls don’t spot you.
LOL Thanks… i’m just looking to find a group that wants to make a sports game… i have a great idea… and alot of research and things together…
Sports games IMO are the most boring genre of gaming.
I’m making a third person platform adventure. It’s awesome. I knew MMO would be too much too soon, and I’m not a great fan of RTS games.
And to each it’s own… its your opinion and your entitled to it…
What is the game based on Fish??
Hum,
If i where EA, I’ll crush you for telling such horrible thing.^^
EA is what it is because of all their sports games they sell every year.
They started with NHL franchise if i remember correctly.
PS: I’m a huge sports fan, i love almost any sport game (specially video-games). ^^
Also, a lot of ‘non-sport’ games you play are actually sports, with competitive ladders and all, using a different thematic (fantastic, fantasy, sci-fi, etc). Examples: League of Legends, Guild Wars, Starcraft, Counter Strike.
Personally I find sports based in the real world to become somewhat awkward when taken to other medias (a playing card hockey game… AWKWARD! Or a hockey video game… like watching it on TV, but made weirder…), but that’s probably more a question of execution or the priorities behind the design (For example EA sports games are funded by the same people who fund it on TV… so it looks and feels the same).
see that’s my point werewraith… too much focus isn’t on the game it’s self… its’ about trying to incorporate other things like ulitmate team ( EA’s card game on the Hockey, Soccer and Madden series) the is nothing wrong with it… but i’m pretty sure that it takes away from the entire game making process…
i want to create a game with the user in mind… and spend the focus on the game itself… like i said from the beginning… there is nothing wrong with games like that… but i want to go back to the days where it was just about the game itself.
@tato… EA did start the NHL series back in 91 with the original NHL hockey on the Sega Master System so it’s still around over 20 years later…
are either you… Tato and Werewrath interested in making sports games??
Hahaha. Good one.
Not right now, as I’m in the middle of an other project but certainly that’s something i would like to do in the future. Specially for the web side, I really like to create arcade-sports games. With multiplayer features.
Mutant League Football!
Mutant League was a fun game… but i was a bigger fan of hockey version
It’s kinda a mix between super Mario sunshine, Zelda : the Wind Waker, and any idea straight off the top of my head. That’s probs what’s closest to it.
it depends on the person, i find sport games very amusing and entertaining(i prefer to play video games about them, than watching them on the tv)… however i find the whole lot of first person shooters very very boring , it’s like watching paint get dry kind of boring for me
so coatl do you design sports games as well??
Sports games are the best games!
Nowadays there lots of people who don’t practice any sports, so it’s good to make Sports games to incentive people and show them the good side of sports.
I’m talking only about European or American football but also about other sports, like swimming, golf, martial arts, billiards and even tennis.
I’m already working with Dynamic Sports and I must tell that he is very trustfully and very good in what he does (organizing the game and creating the whole story).
Lets make some Sports games!
Thanks Pedro…
I appricate that… sports games are just as fun as any other game… if it is put together right…
@ Fish… is it a PC game or your making for other formats… because i do like Zelda…
IDK everyone else’s reasons, but here are mine:
I love every single game genre there is.
I’d love to make one of every genre.
However… my dream list would have MMO as #1 wish, RTS as #2.
Why? Because I feel those are the two genres who never have it right or “good enough” and who are always ruined (in my gameplay experience) by a single flaw that is quite common in both. MMO’s with their static, unchanging, repetitive, unoriginal themepark gameplay, and RTS with their overwhelming focus on an inhuman ability to micro.
The only RTS that I played which really ever focused on more than micro was SupCom, who focused on way too much macro, or at least the macro was in a way where it wasn’t as I would have liked.
Well, I take it back-- the Total War franchise are totally awesome and innovative. However…there are no buildings.
Maybe it’s just me, but Empire Earth 1 was perhaps the greatest RTS game of all time. Yet no one wants to make a modern version. I also would like to add Company of Heroes (and to a lesser extent, Warhammer Dawn of War 2) for their innovative and amazing RTS. As well as World in Conflcit, although that is more like Total War than traditional RTS.
However… every single RTS game I’ve ever played was always boring because 90% of the time the opponent was EXTREMELY better than me, or EXTREMELY worse. Games were ovver in matters of minutes 9/10 games. Only 10% of the time would I ever fight someone AROUND my skill level, and about 1% of the hundreds of games I played were EQUAL skill level (and thus absolutely AMAZING matches).
Not to mention that the AI in RTS games ALWAYS leave a lot to be desired.
Why mainly MMO RTS?
Because FPS games have got it right. They have extremely talented people who rarely mess the game up, and when they do, it’s still not as bad as the game can still be fun. Medal of Honor Allied Assault was horrendously unbalanced with the bazooka and shotgun-- HOWEVER, I still had a BLAST playing the only underpowered, gimped gun (M1 Garand) and that was one of my favorite games of all time.
BF2142 was perhaps the best FPS game I’ve ever played in the more recent gaming era (MoH:AA is very very old) and BF1942 was/is amazing as well. I wasn’t a big fan of BF2, but it wasn’t bad at all.
Left4Dead series and Call of Duty 4 are great games as well.
I enjoy PLAYING FPS games, not making them. Why? Because I don’t feel the need to make a FPS game. BF2142 needs to be redone (The mechanics) but Quake Wars attempted it, and although it’s a buggy and abandoned game, and the designers were probably monkeys with cigars, it’s not horrid.
Singleplayer/traditional RPG"s are just boring to me, and have been ever since I played my first MMORPG. Although FF10 and NWN series were amazing, but NWN only because it was multiplayer. I hate all non-multiplayer games, to be honest.
Adventure games are almost entirely singleplayer. Can’t play those with your friends…
