Job Seeking vs Collab section Approvement

This is alittle weird to me…

If u wanna post a collab with soenone, and basicly form a team, get help…this needs to be approved and it takes a long time. I actually posted my thread on it twice because i didnt think it went through, theres no pm notifications either if it does.

Collab means no money involved, its basicly me looking for you, lets help eachother.

Job seeking and offering involves money and is,what i consider, more “serious” than the collab…how come thats free for all to post and modify, and collab isnt?

I had close to 40 programmers contact me on my thread, this was a mess in my PM and im a nice guy, i wanna answer everyone so i dont seem like a dick. If i could simply modify my post and say “HEY! programmer has been found, thanks for ur time”, it would have been better for both me and all the programmers who was kind enough to offer me help.

Im sorry for those i might have missed also in the PM’s, i tried to answer all of u!

Collab needs to be open to modify and change posts, Job Seeking is a serious thing to me, and it has alot of,what i consider, not very professional posts in it. They’re not checked, so its easy to start scamming people.

Scam someone for free in collab, no one cares.

Wish Job Seeking and Offering had more of a “filter” to it so i can make some safer choices, and they should be more of a “MUST have proof” sort of thing rather than “hey, we need a zombie, 50 bucks”, and nothing to show for that their even making a game.

You can always tell a moderator to update/close a thread, or modify your initial posting yourself, so they see it has been filled.
Quite some people do so, actually

“Position filled”

What I find really cool is that you had so many applications. That proves so many other people wrong that claim the collab forum is dead
So I’m sorry you had this issue, but THAT you had this issue is awesome, imo. Glad you found so many interesting candidates

Ok but is this a fast process? The 40 ppl i got was in like 2-3 days, its very much appreciated but like i said, i gotta answer them all!!:stuck_out_tongue: Dont wanna be a ignoring prick.

Well yeah, it works!:stuck_out_tongue: i was thinking i’d get like 2-5 replies, so it was very positive.

Doesnt that seem alittle too much work for soemthing as simple as a collab tho? i feel the jobs are the ones that should go through this process, and not some simple teaming up threads.

I guess if it’s fast its “ok”, probably depends on the moderator also.

The reason the money involved job seeking threads do not need approval is because people serious enough about development to invest money don’t need to be moderated (i.e. they’re not noobs that start troll threads usually). In other words putting money up weeds out the non-serious developers, thus no flame threads.

I do find it odd that nobody has tried a troll thread in the commercial section yet.

but its also a gateway for scammers rigtht? make a new profile, request models, art etc, and then bail without paying. I just wish there was some filters there, theres no way u really know for sure they are serious developers. In the collab no one cares tbh, its teamwork, free and no contracts involved.

ive seen more than one thread in job that seems…weird. In collab i coudlnt care less, doesnt affect anyone.

Then you get issues where you don’t let in legitimate people because they can’t spell or don’t use proper grammar or have a suspicious background. Scammers to watch out for are the smart ones ;), if you make it look like the threads are checked then people will be more trusting(which is a bad thing) . Unity could be liable if they start screening every person and start banning scammers etc, you’d catch some legitimate people in that net.

There have been some nasty threads where serious accusations have been made and threats etc as well, I doubt Unity wants to get in the middle of these because it can get messy for them quickly.

Use common sense, talk to the person, see their work and talk to their previous employers if they had any. It’s not that hard for most people and you can’t expect Unity to do all the heavy-lifting for everyone.

If you filter out all the bad ones; all that you have left is the good ones. Not a good mix when you also make people more trusting because they feel like Unity has checked them out.

oh, btw I totally agree about the commercial section needing approvement as well.
I never get tired of telling this
The collaboration threads are often of higher quality than some commercial ones

@Khyrid, are you serious ? Pretty much daily there’s scammwothy threads in the commercial sections. So that reasoning doesn’t really apply

Good criminals are also serious enough:P

I use the collab more often than i ever look at jobs, because theres just no way of telling what these “pros” are about, they might have a fancy site and some logos, but so does good scammers that make a living doing this.

Im probably beeing paranoid, no idea, but the point was that i want to be able to modify my collab threads at will, since there is little so no risk involved. Im looking for help, not Money.

anyway, just wondering, just sucks to have to wait or rely on a mod to help u out on such a simple thing, while where there is Money involved its a free for all, even good scammers.

If this was directed at me, since my thread about the subject was similar: I got lots of PMs too, I even understand why threads need approval first. What I don’t like is that people can’t reply there and that you don’t get public feedback by people who just want to voice their opinion about your project or give you tips. You usually don’t get that as PM because there’s a bigger inhibition threshold, if you will. In that respect, the Collab section is dead.

And perhaps I just didn’t find it yet, but it’s really annoying that there’s no directory for “sent messages” yet (or is there?). In a thread discussion I could just scroll up or go to an earlier page and the discussion follows a certain path, you can re-read and re-understand everything at any time (if the majority of posts aren’t modified all the time), PMing on Unity’s forum is just chaotic. Yeah, there’s “Sent Items” but it only displays some very old PMs that are completely irrelevant to me now. Where are all the PMs I sent last week?

There is nothing preventing you or others from starting a collab and in that original post including a link related to your collab idea in the Unity gossip section allowing you and those that wish unhindered interaction free reign to responsibly voice your opinion.

Pretty much my point also, would be VERY Nice to have some followup and feedback on whatever it is ur trying to do! alot of the threads only have ideas and no screenshots, clearly this is not gonna pull alot of People ine, wuld be Nice just to give feedback on that or even ask for screenshots because the Project description SOUNDs interesing enough.

My PM is also a bloody mess now, im trying to answer all the programmer and i gave it up, hard to know who i answered and not even all seem to be there anymore. I have to really look hard to find what im looking for.

Yeah…i can already see all the People going “WRONG SECTION!”

If the Unity mods agree with that, the “Gossip” name is quite misleading though.

You could instead include a link to a WordPress blog about your project. Then you’d be motivated to police it yourself.

alright, seems like the best way to do Things around here. Theres tons of blogs and im having a really hard time choosing one, can anyone point me in the direction? Pretty much only kow of blogspot, i even think i have one but ehm,…any better ones?

this also filters out everyone who wants to just bash Projects on a forum, pretty much only interested People bothers to click a link if it seems ok.

and WHYYYYY ios my keyboard making Capital letters in some of my Words? what button did i hit?

You’ve a developer but Wordpress seems most popular and known. I hesitate to click any link that I don’t recognize the domain name.

As far as your iOS keyboard I only studied Norwegian a short time but I aren’t a lot of Norwegian noun (that aren’t proper nouns) capitalised as in German? So if you have a Norwegian or German keyboard chosen then maybe iOS is using that to suggest based on those suggestion lists rather than using the english suggestion list even if you are typing in English. I don’t switch back and forth between languages so much so I’m guessing here.

No, Gossip is not for discussing your personal projects.

The Internet must seem like a really small place to you then

Thanks for the clarification.

Most likely because the collab posts that dont make the grade dont get approved.

Would making a WIP topic on your game then linking to that from your collaboration post be ok? Showing your process and current status of what your collaboration for.

That seams better than posting it in the gossip forum.
