Has anyone actually used one of these yet who can comment? I’m quite curious, but after the love-hate relationship I have with my mighty-mouse and it’s trackball I’m also quite suspicious!
I guess we can now laugh at those poor plebeian winblows users and their silly mice that have lowly mechanical buttons. Payback time for all their multiple button taunts!
Although, not for long as Microsoft will likely ‘innovate’ it in short order.
Apparently you didnt realize that these can be used in winblows as well. The mac fanboyism is cute, though
Ive tried these ‘button-less’ mice, and personally i cant imagine working with them. Its a nifty gadget, but nothing else - guess im just too used to having physically defined buttons.
It’s not a buttonless mouse, I have one of those. It’s a mouse who’s entire surface is a touchpad, supporting gestures and everything else that goes along with it.
The Magic Mouse is no less buttonless than many other mice. For example, my Dell mouse at work has only one piece of plastic on top, but it bends at the front, where it’s split, and that allows you to hit the physical buttons. The Magic Mouse is just like that. Only it’s not split. Instead, the top pivots a bit. So, that potentially sucks, if you’re playing a game where you need to left- and right-click at the same time. You couldn’t click both at the same time with the Mighty Mouse, either.
Aside from that (and I don’t personally care about that functionality), I’ve used the Magic Mouse at an Apple Store, and thought it worked great. However, its functionality is limited compared to a multitouch trackpad unless you use MagicPrefs. So it’s a tradeoff; the mouse has more capability than the trackpad, until someone makes better trackpad software, but the trackpad is easier to perform gestures on, because it doesn’t slide around like a mouse.
I dislike the Mighty Mouse and the Magic Mouse for one reason specifically: it won’t let you hold left and right click at the same time. How am I supposed to spin up my minigun as a Heavy with one of those mice? (I play TF2 alot in my windows partition. Excellent game)
I use a wireless USB Microsoft Mouse. >.> It does a great job at being a mouse.
Problem is, a mouse is antiquated. The magic mouse does a great job at being a lot more than a mouse. I mentioned the problem you mentioned three posts above, but that problem doesn’t affect everyone. The Magic Mouse is the next best thing to the multitouch trackpad.
What, that I play TF2 or that I have a Windows partition?
I don’t need a multitouch trackpad. I need a mouse. It has four buttons and a standard scroll wheel. In other words, its perfect for gaming and working in 3D apps.
I like it solid meat-n-potatoes. My computer and all the other accessories (30" monitor, 3DConnexion, Wacom, etc.) are the latest and the coolest. Still my keyboard and mouse are very antique. My keyboard is an old IBM keyboard from the late -90’s, which has a wire and a PS2 connector. Cost me about 2€ (I bought dozen of them ). And the mouse is basic Logitech wheel mouse.
The latest keyboards and mouses just don’t have the feeling i’m used to work and like to work with.
The keyboard and mouse that came with the machine, had all the bells and whistles, but are still in the box on the shelf.
I don’t think a mouse is very good for working in 3D apps. A multitouch trackpad in my second (not-using-stylus) hand actually performs useful functions. A mouse doesn’t add anything. I’ve never seen a superior alternative to a not-Apple mouse for a not-console FPS though.
I’ve been using the Magic Mouse for a little over a month now, at first I hated it because it had no middle click, as a 3D modeller having no middle click is extremely annoying. But, there is an application called ‘BetterTouchTool’ which allows set up for all kinds of ridiculous clicks and taps, including middle click.
