MMO Framework - UniVerse - Example MMO

I’d like to introduce the UniVerse MMO Creation Package. UniVerse is a Muliverse like MMO Creation package built with Unity3D for cutting edge graphics. UniVerse features a Custom Networking backend built on top of the Lidgren Networking Library and designed Similar in nature to Unity’s Built in Networking or uLink. UniVerse will feature a Single Client where players will be able to play every Game created with the UniVerse creation package. A Master Server handles Authentication and connecting the Client to the correct Server associated with the game they want to play. We will be hosting the Master Server and Account Database while the Developers host their own game’s Zone/Region Servers and Game Specific Databases.

UniVerse features a Custom IronPython Scripting Engine which allows developers to script out certain elements of the game with out needing to recompile the server all the time. IronPython is also used Client Side to handle game specific things such as UI design and special Effect creation. Assets are loaded into the Client using Asset Bundles which allows the Developers to stream content to the client. UniVese also contains a Patcher for patching the Client.

The UniVerse Client uses UniStorm for Day/Night Cycles and dynamic Weather and changing Seasons.

I’ll be developing 3 example games with UniVerse a Theme Park style RPG, A Scifi Space MMO, and a Lobby based First Person Shooter. Each Example will help to develop key components of UniVerse.

Hi,

Is this fully authoritative ?
And for a very long shot: can it support MMOFPS?

Thanks

It will be Fully Authoritative. Right now though it’s not. Right now the Server is a Console based Server that has no idea what the world looks like and has no Physics. At some point I’ll be Creating a Unity SDK specifically for Unity based Headless Servers.

The view right now is First Person. That will be changing soon for this example MMO however yes it should be able to support MMOFPS games like the PlanetSide games or Combat Arms. How many players would be able to be in a single match is unclear at this time.

I have no idea how much I’ll have the Server Online however here is the download for the UniVerse Example MMO Client:

In order to patch the Client run the patcher exe. To run the Game run the UniVerse Client exe. Both Clients are uploaded and ready to be used! Have fun! I’ll be pushing out patches as often as I can so make sure to patch!

I was working on Transitions between instances today and got a small little dungeon running.

So I have been doing some work on Combat and Mobs:

After another days worth of work:

looking good,

is the action bar fully implemented?

Not yet. I don’t have Drag and Drop working yet… So far it’s mostly just for looks. I’m getting ready to implement it the rest of the way minus prob. Drag and Drop. I’ve never done Drag and Drop with Unity’s UI before.

I have partnered with SilverHelm Studios to develop the first title using UniVerse. The game is Elite Units: Agenda and it’s a tactical third-person shooter, where players are placed in aggressive 3-way combat scenarios in a test of battlefield supremacy.
