not best and not the worst! its good tho for a first attempt! i think even i can’t do that good yet ![]()
I still remember making my first character… The body went ok but making a nice head is really really difficult, at least it is for me ![]()
The character looks pretty good for a first attempt! But, you always want to make it look good without a Mesh smoother or NURBS (something like that, ts been a while) turned on. (you are using them in that picture right?) And yes 10k would be to much for a character.
When I had to learn character modeling we got this tutorial from our teacher, according to him this was the “mother of god” tutorial on the internet when it comes to character modeling. I can guarantee you that making that whole tutorial is worth the effort! ![]()

Edit:
I don’t know if your using 3ds max but I think this tutorial would still be good, even with other programs. Moving and adding vertices/planes stays basicly the same in whatever 3D program for as far is I know ![]()
thx ![]()
Pretty good, but ya that’s way to high of a poly count for something like that, I tried to speed model your model in blender to see what I could come up with took about 45mins but it’s down to 1200 or so polys. What program are you using? Did you apply a lot of a subdivision surface modifier?
Is this tutorial for 3ds max?
Yes but techniques are the same in all 3D app.
Not bad, what program did you use to model that?
the model looks ok but you could do that in less than 1k polygons
i modeled with blender. but my first try on character modeling with no blueprints
and yes i use subsburfs
Probably don’t need to for the most part, you could almost get the same effect with surface smoothing and the edge cut modifier.
Honestly, I think its rather good for a first character model without blueprints…
I tried my first one in maya recently, just throwing myself in there without looking at any tutorials XD (just for fun, wanted to see what would come out of it)
My first character model looked like a human mixed with an ant eater, mutated zombie and a lot of ugly…
Or just a man made with playdoh’.
Anyways, good job! You should finish the head and find a way to give it an animation ![]()
i upgrade myself a little bit ![]()
thats my new lowpoly chars im texuring right now
i follow some tutorial on youtbe
I’m actually really digging the above character, it’s got a certail feel to it that I like!
thx ![]()
updated
smooth normals
and some texture improvment
Whoot I really like this one! Looks much better then I expected from your last picture ![]()
thx!
next update i add some animation armors and guns ![]()
at last finish my char. ![]()
but i need some modifications foots
