Looks like it already is
This is really sad. This stuff looks very cool and promising
The guy states he’s hitting everyone else on the team with questions about how to do his job and admits he’s just now learning C#. We all gotta start somewhere, but come on guys, let’s try to be a little realistic.
I’m sure he’s a nice dude and eager to get better and that if he sticks to it he’ll become good at this. But how you can look at this as a sign of Unity falling apart is crazy to me.
If they were employing people and paying them huge paychecks to learn on the job, THAT would be a red flag.
This just looks like they’re finally getting their act together.
I know this is mean to say, whatever, it’s the truth.
At the risk of being labeled an arse, or whatever. It was the building of social clubs, and a loss of focus on competency and empowering realized, and talented people with an obsession for tools that destroyed our industry.
Did you read the post?
very talented team of lovely people were working on before most of us were either laid-off or moved onto other projects
This basically confirms that terrain team already half laid off half moved to other things
Yes I read the post, that’s what I’m basing my reply on. No that really doesn’t confirm anything. People will always go out of their way to say nice things about the lovey dovey people on their team who have their back and help one another keep their jobs. It is not hard to staff a building with people who enjoy each other’s company and enjoy a paycheck. That’s really darned easy.
What IS hard, is keeping people on task, getting results, and maintaining enough good will that people keep their head down and keep on grinding for great tools. It’s very difficult to find the people who are willing to suffer to make the product better and take pride in the product doing well, and have the discipline to understand their own strengths and weaknesses and what they provide to the team to help them succeed.
The LAST thing you want if you are striving for a performant and successful product that can compete against growing competition are people on the team seeking to pull down others around them to safeguard their positions. Their primary concerns are themselves, not the product.
I’ll be frank, it sounds like a lot of people were cruising by, having a good time making friends and being paid to learn the basics. We should all be so lucky. But Unity is a business suffering dire financial straigts, not a booming entity with deep coffers that can indulge in crazed tertiary ventures any longer.
CoreCLR project and Terrain/World Tile Streaming (ie like UE’s world partitioning tooling) along with Unified Graphics pipeline are to me the high priorities Unity need to get sorted imo, atleast for U7, some of these departures and changes don’t look good, we are in the dark with details and just left to speculate, I somewhat agree with sentiments of IllTemperedTunas… and EricDziurzynski has moved to Animation now?
Seems like they just need to hire Jbooth to sort out and lead graphic performance and terrain +work on an integrated Microsplat2/Microverse2 and it’s addons, that would be a better ecosystem which currently only Rowlan adds to it… anyway hard to tell what is going on… I hope Unity is not just giving up on terrain

I would love to get an official response from Unity to calm the fears and speculation about this much needed project. Especially after news of the Behavior team (which the state of still hasn’t been properly addressed with the community).
Any news about the worldbuilding tools?
It has been canceled.
Thanks for the reply!
That’s really sad. It looked amazing and I know there are similar tools on the Asset Store, but having something like that direcly made by Unity would have been better.
Very sad to not have any news from the team, even if the team was laid off
Cant understand the logic behind this decision
Hi everyone,
As previously explained in our Unity 6 and beyond announcement, we’ve made the difficult decision to deprioritize the previously announced world-building tools.
We are currently reassessing how we can improve the existing Terrain system moving forward. We plan to update our public roadmap in the near future and share our plans here on Unity Discussions to keep you informed and provide opportunities for feedback. Until then, we’re closing this topic for further discussion. As always, we appreciate your feedback, continued interest, and patience.
