Open world racing game

Hi everyone.

This is supposed to be an open world multiplayer racing game. I’ve been working on it for the past 1.5 years. A lot of work has been done on player movement, animations, networking. I will show those later.

For now I want to share my progress on car physics. It is a custom physics made by me. For the past month I did work on sounds and visual effects. Here is the result:

What shader are you using for the body?

Will you be releasing a demo? I would make the camera lag a little for a nicer look and feel. Car model looks very nice, shame can’t see more of it.

Some feedback on the explosion-like effect behind the exhaust pipes - these distract from and IMHO lower the visual experience of what you have revealed so far.

If you watch some real motor racing with this style of car you’ll not see your particle effects behind the exhaust pipes. Maybe you’ve seen this is a toon-style racing game - but it doesn’t suit your art style - which seems to be more realistic (which I really like). Maybe you are thinking of the effect that can occur on boy-racer style cars where the inlet and outlet values have timing overlap and you get unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust pipes - especially as you lift off the accelerator like when changing gears or slowing for a corner.

It’s standard shader.

Maybe demo in few months. Depends on how project development will go. Camera in the video has no behavior scripts, it simply attached to the vehicle. I will work on that in near future.

Thanks for feedback. Yeah, I know. Smoke also a bit off. I have to reconfigure all effects, cause I work on physics in separate project, which has different lighting. What about exhaust fire sound? Not sure about its volume, maybe too loud?

Yeah, this car IRL has totally different physics, no turbo, different weight distribution ect. I use such physics in demo for testing purposes. I really should use something more appropriate for this demo. Like this one:
