Hello
I have a lot of custom Script Template options under my “Create → ”
Is there a way for me to organize these so it’s not so cluttered?
I see dividers and “>” break outs, but I don’t know how I can create and utilize them to for my script template options.
Thank you
Create => what exactly?
It sounds like an IDE thing. In that case we’d need to know what IDE.
In Unity’s Create Menu it’s handled by the MenuItem priority as well as the path, ie you can add more subfolders for instance.
I am talking about this “right click create” flow. This popup menu can contain custom Script Template options.
I had many in there, 9 at last count, but just recently removed them.
I was wondering if there was a way to include my own dividers to better organize them in this menu.
You can organise them by using __ in the file name to act as a / as you might in code.
Eg I have these templates:
And they get tucked away in their own section of the create menu:
Oh? I didn’t know you could have script templates in there. You know, I barely ever create scripts in the editor. You’ll be working with an IDE supposedly, which should have far better options to create scripts using various templates, and editing those templates in a convenient manner.
In Rider you get all sorts of templates out of the box, ie ScriptableObject, EditorWindow, TestRunner test scripts, even Entity Systems I believe. And you don’t get hit by the obnoxious process: create script - wait for recompile - open script. Do that in the IDE and you can start editing the script right away.
Granted, if you’re quick, you can double-click and open the new script in the editor before compilation starts but it just adds unnecessary stress.
@spiney199 ,That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
@CodeSmile , yes, I am using and IDE. VisualStudio to be exact. I didn’t think I could create the Unity scripts via it though. I thought I still had to add them via the Unity Editor and let the solution update.
If there is a way to avoid the compile / domain stalls; that would be fantastic.
There’s the Hot Reload asset on the store, which works “most of the time” (ie there’s some edits it doesn’t support).
And without that: disable domain reload in project settings so that enter playmode is instant. Requires a bit more care about static fields.
