NOTE!
1.This is not a public poll, no one can see what you vote!
2. This is only for one game, not all of your games combined.
3. USD please.
4. Don’t post that one day were everyone downloaded your game, just from an average day.
I couldn’t find anywhere that stores some info, so I made this, anyway I wan’t to get info on how much money people are making from there games, I realize this info is not the type of thing that most would share but It is important to get info on how much a game is likely to make, so please answer the poll, and it would be greatly appreciated if people could post a link to the game (along with stats) so then we could get an idea the kind of games that make what kind of money
appannie gives some good sales figures and it’s free to sign up.
My app reached 130 on the charts and made $750 in a week. Any app below 200 in games will be making a tiny hand full of sales and games tend to tail off very quickly. Doing regular updates and promotions can make the tail longer and high profile promotions like google’s 25p app sale can dwarf the rest of your sales put together. e.g. granny smith on android made more money in 1 day of the google sale than all the time it had been released.
It’s sad that apple makes more money from the majority of app developers’ $99 developer fee than the 30% cut from sales. Although a lot of that can be contributed to people who develop for clients but never release a game on their own.
This won’t tell you anything regarding how much money you’re likely to make. One game will make $1 a day. The next will make nothing. Games like Minecraft were making $250k per day, and there’s another that is allegedly making $1mil a day.
If you’re just curious to know individual people’s sales numbers, ok, but this won’t help you if you’re actually looking for real research.
That’s strange ? Being rank 130 means far more exposure than just ~1000 potential buyers in one day, doesn’t it ?
(assuming the lowest price tag)
Like Khan mentionned, being that high often means thousands of downloads per day.
The graph in this article shows that it should be even more :
If I follow the volume lowering tendancy of the article’s data, top 50 to top 100 should be 13000 per day only in US, top 100 to top 200 should be 7000.
The game itself is only half the story, though. You can make the best game in the world and nobody will buy it if they don’t know it’s there, don’t know how awesome it is, can’t find it on the store, think it’s too expensive, you fail to effectively monetise it, or whatever. If you do those things well you can also make a stack of money off a really average game.
Also, income doesn’t scale with the amount of time, effort, expertise or money you put into it, and aside from maybe other developers and any investors you may have nobody cares about those things.
I should have clarified, it was 130 Paid Game chart, not top free app which that article refers to.
It might also have been a slow week for everyone, charts are relative after all.
I’m frequently in the 150s in the obscure ‘Health Fitness’ category, which means an avg of ~200 downloads/day. For games, it should be much higher.
@OP - I have almost 300 reviews with 5-star average, which totals 17.5k downloads for ‘The Gratitude Habit’ (link in sig). Sales are much lower, but I still consider that quite successful.
The one variable that IS tied to the income is: the number of apps published. So, if you want to be successful, then make smaller apps, so you can make LOTS of them! That speeds up the cycle of: Fail; Improve; Repeat.
