SketchUp 7.1 and Unity

SketchUp 7.1 has a new feature, in that the free version can now export Collada. The same exporter is also used in the Pro version, and it’s different to how it was in 7.0.

I still have a bug report in about how Collada files crash Unity when you import them, but with 7.1 files you don’t get a crash. But you also don’t get any geometry. All you get is a node.

Has anyone here managed to get SketchUp 7.1 Collada exports into Unity? It would be a very handy feature if it could work, all SketchUp Free users would be able to make models for Unity, without Unity having to have SKP support.

I’m not sure if Unity supports importing Collada files.

You might import the Collada file into e.g Blender first and save it afterwards as a .blend ( or .FBX) file into Unity.

I just tested exporting a sketchup-file (collada), importing it to blend, and exporting it in .fbx-format. Works fine, so great workaround, oxl
