Hello Unity Community,
I am posting here to share a Senior Project I am doing at my school. We have 16 weeks and 4 people, so we work fast and I will update this thread each week. But so far the project is shared on GitHub, you can download all the source for the client and server code. You can also connect to our server instance to play.

What is Starbound Aces? Well, it is a multiplayer space combat game. That is it. Simple, and it will be fun. We plan on having features like leaderboards, your own account, and the ability to pick the ship you want to use.
The main focus on this project was to utilize the excellent Unity game engine and its powerful scripting using C#. Our server technology resides on extensions and default handlers of the SmartFoxServer X2 MMO server technology. With these two great technologies combined we have already accomplished deployment to a server, client interaction, and some simple extensions. All in one week.
I am sharing this because I think it is always good to share. Plus, the source code is a good way to find a starting point in your own project. The fact that it is on a public repository means that you can easily fork from it and start your own!
By next week (3/26/14) I hope to have a Web Player version up for anybody to try. And if you are lonely, some AI combatants for your entertainment! So check back for more! If you want even more details about this project and my personal thoughts about through the development project, visit my blog: http://enjoy-game-programming.blogspot.com/
I am back with an update on the project now (instead of week) because I am going on vacation for some time and will not have time to work on adding a bunch of features. So here is a video of what we have so far in regards to multi-player. For more information, take a look at the blog linked after the video:

Alright, alright, alright! Time for some updates on the current status of Starbound Aces! If you haven’t been following the dev blog, you should do so now, it comes with a wealth of resources such as design decisions, source code, and links to the repository for full source code and game access.
Anyways, onto the updates. I have decided to pay heed to short attention spans and list the features, so that you may get on with your busy lives.
- Pewpew Lasers
- Fully functional chat system
- EXPLOSIONS
- License to kill
- Death
A pretty comprehensive list, no? I will have screen caps and videos available at a later date if not hopefully by tonight. Also, for anybody who downloads the client and has played it, or just looked at the source code, I would LOVE some comments and ideas. Cookies my be involved.
Here is a video of a multi player game with some of the combat features shown. Enjoy!
