I’m using a Macbook Pro 17", Late 2011 edition on Mavericks, with 16GB of RAM to develop for Mac and iPhone.
I’ve never had a problem with Unity before, but since upgrading to v4.3, the editor crashes A LOT. At least a couple of times a day, which is in contrast to weeks of never having to restart.
Did you submit a bug report? You probably don’t know exactly what the cause of the issue is, so how should Unity know what causes the issue in your project(s)?
Agreed, this thing is riddled with issues. I’m having odd errors thrown to console (like the fence error) among others that point to no where. I’ve crashed a few times randomly. I’m beginning to significantly regret updating. I can’t even report the issues, because I have nothing to report! The error console is freaken useless!
If Unity crashes, simply start it again, open the bug reporter (Help → Report a bug) and submit it. The information of the previous session will also be submitted!
It only crashed once. It’s the in editor errors with no trace of where they’re coming from that’s a bigger problem, which means they’re engine errors that we can’t do anything about.
Of course you can’t do anything about it, but Unity can. If you don’t submit a bug report, they won’t find it out. It would be pretty unusual that there is no information at all that can be helpful for Unity. But it is necessary to submit bug reports!
Reading other threads and testing the release seems that this release is really a mess.
I mean, it’s the first time i’ve seen this kind of bad bugs in an update, we are not talking about a mayor release (5.x), many of these problems are regressions introduced by an update.
Unity 4.3 has crashed on me left and right. Most of the time it crashes when I try to save a prefab. In fact, it occurs almost all the time when I try to save a prefab. I would send a bug report if not for the fact Unity wants to know the other applications that I am running. If it wasn’t for this I would gladly send the report. I can say that I usually have IE 10 open, along with Unity, and sometimes a Windows Explorer (folders).
Unfortunately I had to revert back to 4.2.2. Performance with 4.3 was bad even with a simple scene, and the editor repeatedly crashed when I attempted to make prefabs.
Been crashing more and more lately. Almost every time I press Play after opening Unity for the first time for the day it will guaranteed lock up and I have to end the process. After I restart it magically works fine again. I hope a 4.3.1 comes very very soon.
As Dantus said, the best way to alert developers of all these issues is to report a bug with as much details as possible. Feel free to post the bug numbers here.
