i have predator helois 16s laptop, so if i use only gpu mode, and try to resize, everything is fine, but if i use auto mode or optimus(cpu only) unity freezes.
i’ve tried reinstalling gpu/igpu drives, reinstalling unity - didn’t help

Leave it in GPU mode. The GPU switching (between discrete and integrated GPU) is known to cause issues, not just Unity, in general. Applications are rarely designed to cope with such a switch, the driver and Windows do the heavy lifting and it sort of works most of the time, but there aren’t any guarantees.
It’s pretty much like pulling the rug under a running application and telling it “oh, we just pulled out that GPU and gave you another one with different capabilities and VRAM”. That’s not an easy feat, and it’s due to lots of heavy engineering that this even works well enough that Laptops can ship with that feature.
So use GPU mode for applications that require a fast GPU or have issues in auto mode. Leave auto mode to applications that don’t show any issues, and the “optimus” mode is reserved for applications where you explicitly don’t want the discrete GPU to be used ie to save battery. You can set this per application.
