Unity hub constantly requiring reactivation

I have a surface book 2, and a surface dock.

Almost every time I go into Unity Hub, it requires reactivation - claiming my license is valid. I reactivate the license, and am able to get in. But can I please skip this step?

Comparing the previous license to the new license shows the change is the MAC address on the ethernet (which is on the dock). This appears to change at Windows whim:

← This values vary by a few digits.

Instead of selecting the ethernet card - which is dropping out of style on notebooks anyway - why not use the wifi MAC address? Or maybe the CPU ID or something? Or maybe, just politely ask who we are, and save that - This is a free license, so you’re not losing anything. (And it’s not like I’m asking for something for nothing - I don’t know how many thousands I’ve spent on your store, and for previous licenses, but it’s a lot).

Ok - this happens because my machine does not have an ethernet on the system itself. It’s in the dock. And I have two docks. So the key value changes depending on where I am docked.

What do you mean by “docked”.

The surface machines have a “surface connector” that connects to a “surface dock”. By being docked, I mean my surface book is plugged into my surface dock to charge.

This adds an ethernet port. Unity decides this ethernet port is unique to my machine, and uses this to generate a license file. Since this port is transient - sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not, and the mac address changes depending on which dock (charger) I am connected to, this invalidates my license twice a day. When I plug it in at the office, and then plug it in at home (changing the ethernet port).

Thanks for the clarification.

Wow, that is so interesting how I’m experiencing the exact same issue with a customer of mine. I’m using SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier and it’s constantly changing for him. Seems this is a chronic issue with Windows.

The team is currently aware of the issues related to the MacAddress changing while docking/undocking devices. An update with a fix will be released sometime in the near future. Thanks!
