Unity LiveOps Roadmap Update - May 2025 Highlights

Hello Unity Developers!

We are thrilled to announce the latest and future updates to our LiveOps offering!

Coming Soon

Adding Private Player Data to Cloud Save

Support for Player Data that is only accessible from Cloud Code to enable Server Authoritative game logic and avoid private data being requested from the client.

Triggers enhancements

We will be bringing more Integrations to Triggers!

Onboarding more and more services, such as Lobby and Matchmaker with Triggers, facilitating more advanced Server Authoritative workflows and automations. Reward your players, validate player progression, manage events and more with ease through Triggers and Cloud Code.

Secret Manager

Securely connect 3rd party services to the Unity ecosystem with our Secrets Manager.

To provide flexibility and security, you can add secrets at different levels: Organization, Project, or Environment. This makes it easy to manage configurations for various teams or games and switch between environments seamlessly.

Cloud Code Local Debugger

Test Cloud Code locally and iterate faster with our local debugger.

It will also be included in Multiplayer Play Mode to ease the testing of your games while iterating.

IAP - Support for StoreKit 2 and Billing Library 7

IAP 5 introduces support for Apple StoreKit 2 and Google Play Billing Library 7, laying the foundation for more transparent, reliable integrations with mobile stores. Stay ahead of platform changes and resolve issues faster with streamlined troubleshooting tools.

Learn more about IAP 5 here.

IAP Transaction Verification

Unity iAP will include built-in server-side receipt validation to help you detect duplicate or replayed receipts and prevent fraud. Use it with Cloud Code to securely reward players from your backend.

Live Releases & Live Content Management

Live Content Management brings asset & configuration management together into one single, unified platform, making it easier to organize, manage and deliver content across your game.

Pair it with Live Releases for atomic rollouts across Live Content Management, with support expanding to all Unity Gaming Services soon after. This will allow for synchronized updates and simple, straightforward rollbacks. Learn more about Live Releases and join the beta here.

Analytics Custom Metrics

Enhance your game monitoring and player targeting with Custom Metrics. Define and track custom per-player data from any event. For example, identify players who have lost more than 3 times in the past week and haven’t made a purchase yet, then offer them a personalized discount to encourage conversion.

Analytics Config-as-Code support

Streamline your analytics integration with Config-as-Code support. Define your events directly in the editor, right alongside the code that triggers them. Plus, CLI support for seamless automation and CI/CD pipelines.

Future Development

Monetization & Economy Management

We’re taking a fresh look at how developers manage their in-game economies, aiming for greater flexibility and control – something we know has been a pain point.

We’re also planning on offering consistent tools for non-consumables and subscriptions across the supported stores.

Please let us know your thoughts on these and tell us about what you think we should address in the future!

Feel free to share your mind below this post or on Roadmap page.

Best,

Maxime

Thanks for the roadmap update. What are the plans regarding the player management interface expanding with features such as player name search, manual player creation, password resetting etc.?

Hello!
This is a topic we are also looking at, but we do not currently have a timeline for it.
It’s interesting to know that you would want to have that available though, I’m taking the note of it, thanks!

Are there plans to update IAP 4 to work with Google Play Billing Library 7?

Thanks for the question! There are no plans to update IAP 4 to support Google Play Billing Library 7. Instead, we’re focusing our efforts on IAP 5, which is built with support for the latest billing requirements, including Billing Library 7. We’re excited about the improvements it brings and expect it to reach general availability very soon.

If you’re currently using IAP 4, we’d love to hear more about your setup or any questions you might have as you plan for the transition!

I’m worried that Google will announce that we should use Google Play Billing Library 7 right now.
If you update IAP 4 to work with Google Play Billing Library 7, I can have enough time to transit it.

Totally understand your concern. From what we’ve seen, Google is following their usual support timeline, where Google Play Billing Library 6 will be supported until August 31, 2025, with an optional extension available up to November 1, 2025, if you need more time. You can find more details in their deprecation FAQ here: Google Play Billing Library version deprecation  |  Google Play's billing system  |  Android Developers.

Hopefully that gives you a bit more breathing room as we get closer to IAP 5’s general availability.

Hi @MaximeD_Unity @SebT_Unity

Are you able to share any updates on CCD please?

Things have gone very quiet on that front for a while now, which is a little concerning.

Is it still under active development?

From my point of view, I would love to see (in the dashboard)…

  1. Richer bucket management options in the dashboard (reset, clone etc)
  2. Richer reporting of statistics in the dashboard (requests, bandwidth for billing period \ year \ overall etc)
  3. Some form of rate limiting or reporting
  4. Developer defined tokens for each request (that CCD would hash) to aid reporting and\or limiting (for example it could be an IAP transaction id that is associated with specific content)
  5. The ability to (easily) report suspicious activity (based on the enhanced reporting)

In summary, better content management in the dashboard and better reporting of stats (which is almost entirely non-existent right now)

Hey David,

Thanks for sharing that feedback.
I’ve passed this on to our product managers as these are very good points.
Can you provide a scenario where you would need to investigate suspicious activity?

On a separate but similar note:

Unity is introducing a new live content system that is directly built on top of the existing Cloud Content Delivery product.

This was mentioned at Unite:

Hey @SebT_Unity

Thanks for the reply and the road map link, I’ll sit down and watch that over Christmas. As for the feedback, I’ll DM you about that over Christmas too.

Just been through a launch and still dealing with a number of loose ends etc.
