Top-down character sprites with 23 animations and tons of variation! Retro 2D Characters features male and female pixel art characters with variations in outline style, outfit, hairstyle, eye color and skin tone. These characters are inspired by classic, 16-bit era RPG’s/JRPG’s. They feature 23 total animations, from walking to jumping, nodding, sword swinging, taking damage, carrying (oversized vegetables?) and more!
23 animations:
Stand, walk, stand carrying, walk carrying, run, jump, fall, nod, shake head, blink, lying
Wave, sit, sit blink, ready stance, damage, hurt/crouch, swing attack, shoot attack, spell pray, shock, sad, happy
Organized folder structure with each element in .PNG. Overlay outfits, hairs, etc. directly in your game!
If there’s an interest, I could offer unique outfits and hair styles on a commission type basis, so do let me know if that’s something that you’d like.
Retro 2D Characters released! Click the image to get to the Asset Store page!
Thanks to the Asset Store team for the quick review of the pack. You can now buy the pack for a mere $15 / €14.25!
Don’t forget that 10% of May sales on this and my other asset packs goes toward a Summer Games Done Quick 2014 donation. Get some sweet assets for your project and help the awesome speedrunners collect money for Doctors Without Borders.
To celebrate the release of the characters pack, here’s a preview .GIF I put together demonstrating a couple of sample weapons and their respective animations, feautring the mascot female ranger and male warrior, that you’ll see on the Asset Store page too.
Hey all! Sorry about the late reply. I’ll be looking into making a sample video with a few animations. If it doesn’t take too long to make, it might coincide with the next update (including 2 new hairstyles!)
Hey Kitsuki!
Thanks for the purchase and for the feedback! More sample animations is something that I’d like to add to future updates. Right now, I’m working on the Retro Pixel Monstes pack. Updates to other packs will follow after that.
Use the sample anim tree to set it up to work with your game! Prefabs with SpriteSkin script uses same animations and anim tree, reskinning the sprite in real-time. Layer the prefabs to easily create your character!
I cannot figure out how to get an outfit to animate with the character. What would I need to do with the “Setup Example - Animator” scene to add an outfit and have it animate with the character when he’s moving?
Hey dmauldin! Sorry about the delayed reply, I seem to have some issues with e-mail notifications for the forums.
As for your question, that scene is an older example. If you downloaded the latest version of the asset pack, there should be a scene file called “!Update13_SpriteSkin_and_Anims” that has example setups with the SpriteSkin-script added in the update. With it, you’ll be able to get outfits, hairstyles etc to animate with the character base. Hope this helps!
Hi spelljv! I’ve been hard at work making the Retro Pixel Bossespack that’s going up for approval to the asset store this weekend, so that’s where most updates have been, forum-wise. If you want more regular updates on what’s next for the assets, I post regularly on Twitter. After the bosses have launched, I plan on updating Retro 2D Characters and Retro Pixel Characters with a hairstyle and helmet from the Bosses pack, so look out for that coming up next, after the bosses!
Good news! The pack has been updated to version 1.4, adding a new “Bat” hairstyle and “Rhino” helmet, based on bosses from the new Retro Pixel Bosses pack.
