xbox 360 and indie games about to take off?

Have you heard of the Xbox 360’s Community Games store?

Looks like Microsoft is adopting Apple’s App Store business model; open the platform to all developers provide a easy to use marketplace to sell 3rd party (indie) software and then take a 30% cut.

Sounds cool. This is the first time I wished Unity could target XNA (the xbox).

An important thing to realize is that if Microsoft wants to, they could take an additional 30% cut of the royalties to “promote your game”. Also, you’re forced to use the XNA software.

It’s still a sweet thing, but just make sure you consider all the angles.

especially your games will just be removed if they “suck for months” to keep the shop clean and not as flooded and chaotic as the iphone shop (they definitely must do something about the masses of apps that do not appear in itunes but only on the ipod touch app store or apps that are assigned to definitely wrong categories)

@dreamora For what I understand, only a small fraction of games will be promoted on the XBox (and this selection will be rotated frequently). All the games (perhaps thousands of them) will forever be listed in the games catalog online at xbox.com. … think of it as a YouTube for xbox games.
