Zooming in scene not working correctly?

For some reason my zoom settings when I use the middle mouse wheel are not working correctly. If I zoom in past a certain point, the object I am trying to zoom in on as well as all the other scene assets completely disappear. When I scroll back out, they reappear again.

I tried clicking on it to show the grab handles, then zooming in, but it does the same thing - all the scene objects disappear (backgrounds, everything), the grab handles remain… and if I zoom back out again, everything comes back.

Is this something I need to configure? I’m in 2D mode, using sprite max size of 2048 pixels.

this happens randomly to me too. some times it zooms in fine other times everything vanishes

Glad I’m not the only one. I have another project loaded that it does NOT happen to.

I’m using Boot Camp Windows 8.1 on my MBP; I should try it with the Mac’s native display drivers and see if that makes a difference!

I’ve seen funky things like this happen when either the scene world is super super large, or super super small. Maybe a middle mouse wheel move shifts the camera a huge distance forward or backwards, or perhaps the scene view camera near and far clip planes are not set appropriately for your title. Maybe some editor code like the following might help?

// c-sharp example
using UnityEngine;
using UnityEditor;
using System.Collections;

public class msdn : MonoBehaviour {

    [MenuItem ("MyMenu/Cameras")]
    static void sceneViewCameraPosition () {
        // this only returns something if the scene view is the currently active window
        ArrayList sceneViews = UnityEditor.SceneView.sceneViews;

        UnityEditor.SceneView sv = (UnityEditor.SceneView)sceneViews[0];
        Debug.Log(sv.camera.transform.position);

    }

}

the camera doesn’t jump, the engine just seems to occlude ALMOST everything. Basically the default layer forward for me. The backgrounds stay just the player and all the level objects vanish. Depending on the severity of the day you can zoom in closer sometimes then normal before everything vanishes and other days it works as expected. this is in 2D where everything including the backgrounds are on the 0z plane

Well, guess you’d want to submit a bug report with the project so the QA team can investigate for you.

it happens on me too (im using LWRP 2D)

And on me… On Unity 2019. It just appeared recently and is now a major problem.

Just adding this here if anyone new ever comes across this issue like I just did. I found the solution when I was having this issue. To fix you select the game object you want to Zoom in on, press ‘F’ to focus, and you should be able to zoom in and out again.

For me even F to focus didnt work.

I found pressing shift F works, and you can find that function in edit bar so you can check if its set to sth else. Its called - locked view to selected !

Click on orientation tool in the overlay menu, then right clink on the tool itself and then tick perspective. Also check field of view in Scene view camera.
