FM4 Signs Signals - a radiovisual experience, Linz 4.9.09

We used unity to create a framework that allows us controlling all sides of the new Ars Electronica building in realtime. The sound analysis was done in pd.

The whole project was done in about one month and everything went very smoothly.
We might do something similar again next year, same time.
So if you happen to be in Austria at the time, come and visit us- phil.

Sweet!

Very “out of the ordinary” and interesting with what looks like a well thought out GUI, but one question: what motivated you to use Unity for this?

although the interface looks flat, the building in our application is a 3d-model.
that lets us manipulate different sides at a time (altering the geometry, rotating the whole building…), we used a trail renderer to implement drawing, also the particle system and projectors were very useful.

Awesome !!!

No, wait… that’s a 3D model? I thought it was a photograph! Wow! Lovely!

I’d love to hear more about the interface with the building itself!

I think he meant the visualization building in their interface is in 3D
Like it’s not 4 x 2D faces on which they would map their textures, but a whole 3D representation of the real building, to ensure WYSIWYG.

Ok, got it!

Awesome stuff!

The uses for Unity never fail to impress me!

Amazing stuff indeed.
