Alien World: Broken Memories is an upcoming psychological horror indie video game.
Scheduled to release in 2013, AW:BM is a story-focused first person gaming experience set in a world between both life and death. You’re tasked with finding and collecting the memories of your past life, which are scattered throughout this large alien wasteland. These memories are the key to your sanity, and without them, you’re destined to spend the rest of your eternity shrouded in darkness.
The protagonist in Alien World: Broken Memories is Jonathan. He was thirteen when a fire tore through his home, destroying everything he had once cherished, including his life.
He resides in the United Kingdom, and was in love with a classmate named Ellen. Although the Ellen character is never explained in complete detail, Jonathan refers to her as being ‘the most beautiful soul this side of England has ever had the pleasure to meet’.
It’s supposed to be dark, as it represents some form of spiritual world, trapped between life and death.
When in the game, you’re only able to see within a small circle of light. Everything outside this circle consists of shadows, and within these shadows are unknown creatures, which the lead character calls reapers. (grim reapers)
It’s really more of an object finding game, with a few platforming elements on the side.
This is entirely story-based. Not sure how long it’ll be, but I hope to get at least an hours worth of content going. (an hour to read / listen to the entire story unfold)
Think of it more as an experience, rather than your traditional everyday game.
Well I remember in college where they were trying to make a game using sound and forcefeedback trying to naviagate through a dark maze. So you could try to say imagine you were blind.
You can see that blind guy who plays zelda orcania of time.
Just updated the description, as some development properties have changed hands. (mostly me hiring a good lead narrator for the game, which required a minor story rewrite)
I also have the start of an announcement trailer up, which you can see in the original post above. (even though the trailer currently lacks sound. Plan to add sound later this week)
Just by walking around. You’re supposed to feel like you’re playing as the character, so confusion is something you’ll encounter throughout the game.
Not to worry, though. You’ll find an object after about a minute or two of searching. The pacing should be fairly good, just as long as the player continues to search around.
Travelling from place to place in complete darkness isn’t that hard to do. The stars overhead are ‘static’, frozen in place. It’s possible to build up a map of the world simply by following a certain star.
I should also mention how, once again, this isn’t a traditional video game, but rather more of an ‘experience’. The game itself is pretty straight forward, just walk around and find as many of your memories as you can. That’s the only real goal.
Although the concept is extremely simple, the darkness, combined with the eerie art style and the story, it all kind of fits into one epic adventure.
