I’ve been trying to change the default walking animations on a VRChat avatar. I’ve watched several tutorials and they all say pretty much the same thing: create a copy of the default locomotion animation controller, open it and go into the “Standing” tree, switch out the appropriate animations with the custom ones, place the customized animation controller in “Base” in the Playable Layers.
I want to use the Feminine Walk from vrcmods since, from what I’ve been told, it’s one of the best available. I imported the unity package to my project. It came with the animations as well as a pre-made animator to replace the default “Standing” with. I did open that up and it looks how the tutorials say it should so I completed all the steps from there, but when I “build & test” nothing seems to have changed. The avatar still uses the default animations as though I hadn’t replaced the “Base” layer at all. I’ve followed all the instructions correctly so why isn’t it working?
I’m having the exact same problem! I purchased a hover animation pack from MOCA Studios on Booth and carefully followed the instructions to install it. When I went to test it in VRC, all of the emotes worked but the base layer changes for the hovering blendtrees weren’t activating! My locomotion was the same as it always was. I am in contact with the creator of the hover pack and they mentioned that interference can sometimes happen from other gimmicks and that I should try installing the pack onto a basic avatar that doesn’t have gogoloco, particle effects, or other animations. I’m curious, did you ever find a fix for this issue? And does your avatar have any other extras installed on it?
I’m going to be troubleshooting step by step from a basic avatar up to the one I’m trying to install on, to see if I can figure out the specific thing that’s interfering. I’ll report back with my findings, but hopefully you’ve already solved this!
Best to ask in the VRChat Discord
Turns out GoGo takes over the Base layer animations so even if you follow the tutorials and replace the Base where they say to it has no effect. You have to edit the Base in GoGo for it to work. I’ve just been going to Go Loco Base WD > (3-4 pt) > Locomotion (3-4 pt) > Stand (3-4 pt) > Stand Motion > go_Stand_Desktop_Loco and replacing the “go_Desktop_Stand_Motion” with the “DM_StandLocomotion_Feminine” animator and it’s been working. I’m sure there’s probably a Quest section that needs replacing too but I haven’t bothered with it since I’m making these avatars for me to use and I can only play on desktop.
Sorry, but I don’t use Discord.
