cloth help please

Ok i looked up videos about the cloth and for some reason it dos not work for me. I put it into the scene and it just stays there like a wall and if you go on the other side of if its invisible why is this?

although i havn’t used the cloth editor yet i could probally confirm that the reason its invisible or transparent on the other side is becuase it is a plane, so the object only has one face so only one side will contain visible data. As for standing there you will most likly have to trigger an animation or set the key frames. But this is just a guess, sorry i couldn’t help more

The thing that i don’t under stand is why would unity give you a tool but not have it work with all the default settings

well i may not be 100% right, if right at all. But with my experiance with Ncloth theres alot of things you have to input first such as fields like air and gravity. You may have to toggle these things somwhere, but dont be thrown off by what i say, again i may be wrong.

oh i fixed it i need to add wind i thought it was already in the scene but i still cant see the back of it

I have played a few moments with cloth and it tooked me about ten minutes to make it right. First You have to check all variables in cloth inspector - You will see that almost all physic forces and cloth behaviours are set to 0. Play with those and You should see some ‘strange’ results  I’m still not sure about hooks, but probably You can use empty objects for this… anyway:

You need double sided material - never used them in Unity.

Kind regards,
Artur

thank you

Right… I tried cloth when it first became available, found out it didn’t work as expected, left it, never used it again till doay then spent 3 hours trying to get it to work and still nothing. I tried browsing the web, watching videos, reading the docs and all I read is “Add this component to your mesh and make it touch the collider of any other object and hit play” and in the docs it goes one further by saying the “Mesh” field can be occupied with any mesh in your scene… not that I can understand what that is supposed to do, mind you…

Anyways, so here are my issues.

  1. The Meshes in my scene do not appear when I click on the little circle icon next to the mesh. Instead, the meshes in my Project folder show up.
  2. If I attach a mesh renderer and cloth renderer to my object, I can see the mesh in my scene and at runtime I see my static mesh and I see the animated cloth but the animated cloth behaves erratically and doesn’t look right at all.
  3. If I remove the mesh renderer from my object and have only the cloth renderer attached then I can’t see my mesh in the scene, only at runtime, when it behaves erratically and doesn’t look right all.
  4. In order to see my object in the scene and have it visible at runtime, I have to choose a mesh from my Project folder as the value of the Mesh field in the InteractiveCloth
  5. I am not able to use any mesh I have in the scene in this field so I cannot use the mesh of the mesh I am trying to turn into a cloth
  6. When the cloth simulation IS running, the mesh gets stretched to twice it’s length and no setting I change changes this
  7. The cloth mesh that is draped around a large beam, when the animation starts, the top half that is rounded stays static, even after the mesh has been transformed (for reasons I do not understand) so far that it doesn’t even touch the beam for about half a world unit and only after that does it start to stretch the cloth to double the mesh’s size…

All I want is to have a piece of cloth hanging over a wooden beam and have it flutter a little bit. Nothing fancy… So why in the world is it this hard to get the interactive cloth to work…

I am including some screenshots to prove I’m not insane and would love to get some feedback on this, please. If you require it, I will gladly provide the scene so you can see for yourself what’s happening. If you then fix my scene, please explain to me what you did that I didn’t do!

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated…

Is there seriously nobody among the 500,000 Unity users who knows how cloth works?

If I offered to pay, could someone please add a cloth component to this model and just make it work?
How much will it cost me for you to drop the cloth component onto 2 meshes and write me up a story on how you did it?
