Disable default checkbox "Connect to Unity Cloud" when creating new project in Unity Hub

I think this is a new behaviour in Unity Hub 3.8.0 but I am not sure.

Every time when I create a new project the checkbox “Connect to Unity Cloud” is checked by default.

Its easy to overlook when you do not scroll down. This means when I create test projects in a hurry I end up with unwanted projects on Unity Cloud which I have to manually archive.

Is there any way to uncheck this box by default?

Yes please. Even when you uncheck it will check back after you change Editor Version or select a template that isn’t downloaded and you either download it or just switch back to another template.

Just noticed this myself after a break from Unity and it is a royal pain the ass!

I don’t recall it being active by default, but its already caused me to accidentally link 2 projects to the Unity Cloud. In the almost decade these cloud services have been around and the hundreds of Unity projects I have created, i have never once ever needed this service!

Now I have to remember to disable this stupid tick-box - which half the time is off-screen - for every new project I make. This is unacceptable especially as

  • It overrides the ‘Auto-Refresh’ property in the preferences, forcing it on!
  • Pollutes my namespace for Projects as you can never delete them from the Cloud only archive.
  • Requires wasting time logging on and archiving the projects.

The auto-refresh issue is huge as with the ever growing time Unity takes to enter Play mode these days, its the only way to remain sane and avoid triggering recompile and domain reloads every time you make a change to a script.

This needs to default to off, or worse case Unity needs to add a preference to the Unity Hub that a user can set ‘Connect to Unity Cloud’ to default to off.

Otherwise this is just yet another cut in the ‘death by a thousand cuts’ Unity is going through. Somehow they keep focusing on services instead of the engine, and the services they add make Unity more frustrating to work with.
