… as a strip poker game, with fully nude models. Well, that’s a good question. Are there limitations on the types of games I can make with Unity? I don’t remember reading anything about this, so I’m curious, if I’m asked this question again. I assume that since you can make a game where you shoot and kill people, that you would be allowed to also make a game where you make sweet love to people.
But is that correct? Are there any limits to what I’m allowed to do with this engine?
PS: to answer the question - you can create whatever you want. Where you then post it though will have its own rules about the type of content that’s acceptable. In your case, it’s your client’s issue - not yours.
That sucks. How hard would it be to add tripple X section to games cathegory. Applications with nudity would be gold mine for developers thats for sure.
The only software I know of that restricts what you are allowed to do with it (or … well … encourages you strongly not to do so) is Coat3D.
Other than that … I don’t know of any professional software that restricts you in that kind of way. After all you licensed it. Would be pretty invasive to restrict that. Just imagine buying pencils and paper and then at the checkout you’re told: “But don’t draw anything naughty with it!!”
Ridiculous, IMO. So in short - yes. you are allowed to do that. It’s your decission and also your responsibility.
Well, it’s up to the designers. I know the 3DCoat guys, and I used it extensively on one of my games. Awesome app. That’s actually what made me wonder. I hadn’t seen anything specific to Unity, but I know the 3D Coat guys have rules, and I will abide by them.
Their interface is nonstandard to say the least, but it’s better than anything else, IMO. Not a lot of effort goes into the core user experience aspect of many 3D apps.
I read these last couple of posts and had to check that out. The fact somebody smart enough to make 3DCoat could also harbor beliefs like that boggles my mind.
To be very clear about this - you can use Coat 3D for all kinds of wrong or naughty stuff as well. There’s no legal way to have a point like this in your contract and have you abide to it. That’s why they worded it like this: you should not make things like it. We don’t appretiate it and would rather not have you do dirty things with it.
Personally - that kind of mindset just doesn’t feel right to me. It’s just nothing that should be incorporated into business, whatsoever, IMO. Yet they also state they know that it might diminish their sales. Still they chose to keep it. Ah well … shrugs
The whole thing is another story, though. I chose Zbrush over 3D coat. Can’t say that the paragraph in the EULA was the deciding factor but it certainly DID play into it a little.
I’m actually glad that no other company I know would ‘restrict’ their software like that. Imagine UDK and Pixologic doing this: Duke Nukem Forever would never have been made
