I have been wondering about that for a while now. I have seen that a “Commericial” license for Cryengine costes like 1.2 million dollars, and a few hundred thousend for the Unreal Engine, is that true. If it is, how much do unity costs for “Commerical” use? I have seen that the pro version of unity costs 1200$, does it means that I can sell game, or do I need a diffrent license. Or have I just miss understood the whole thing?
You can sell up to 100,000 worth of games using the free version of Unity, and there are no per title license fees, on free or pro. If your impression was that Unity represents fantastic value relative to other commercial engines, you’ve understood it perfectly.
You can make money by charging a lot and selling to few people, or by charging little and selling to a lot of people. Unity Technologies decided on the second method. Both are valid.
