I’m new on Unity and i’m starting to learn how to use this fantastic software, my end gold goal is to do an MMORPG. I had a ragnarok online server some years ago and i remember that the server was storing all the information related to each user, like which items, how much exp, which lvl, what’s your location, which skills are you using, how many chars you have created , ETC… So this big question came up to my mind when i started watching the unity world, ¿ is this possible? ¿ how could i control the server side to make my game multiplayer ?
Thanks for you answers !
Whish a good new year to everyone !
Quick and painless before you get laughed out of the room: You can’t.
That doesn’t mean that one cannot build an MMORPG on Unity, but that you cannot build an MMORPG on Unity.
Game development is a very hard subject. You’re completely new and want to tackle the probably hardest type of game.
Besides that, do you have any idea how much money you need for the infrastructure alone? Those servers aren’t gonna pay themselves.
What now?
Forget about developing an MMO, period. If you still want to step into the world of videogame development, start on the other side of the spectrum and work your way up.
What skills do you have in terms of development? I mean, there’s a lot of different things to do in order to get a full game (idea-guy doesn’t count).
To everyone. Let’s not troll. I know it’s hard to resist when you see the words MMORPG’s but it will usually just end in pointless back and forth.
@Pr0sper0 - I suggest starting small. Go through the various tutorials and finish a small game first perhaps to get a better understanding of the technical and artistic difficulties you may face. Learn
