I can get a link to the dropox folder, which is great but not what I want to do. I can get a link to the .html file in the folder which allows me to download the .html file, but that is also not what I want to do. I want a link that will open the webplayer. I see it all the time and it works just fine when I play other people’s webplayers but I can’t figure out how to get the link to actually play the webplayer in the brower.
Here’s the link to the folder: Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life
Here’s the link to the .html file in the folder: Dropbox - Error - Simplify your life
As you can see the .unity3D file is in the folder with it, and I can access the .html file, but I can’t figure out how to get the link to actually play the the webplayer, like this link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/180942420/PublicHoarder/HoarderWeb.html
Where am I going wrong here?
Put the folder inside your dropbox’s public folder.
"Please note: New Dropbox accounts created after October 4, 2012 no longer have a Public folder. Don’t worry! Every account created prior to this date will still have a Public folder. If you would like to enable a Public folder on a new account, see the instructions below (Creating a Public folder).
However, all the extra functionality provided by the Public folder is now accessible anywhere in your Dropbox. Now all you need to do to share and preview files and folders in your Dropbox is select Share link via your computers, phones, and tablets. Take a look at Dropbox links here or go to this article to see how it works."
Supposedly there’s no public folder anymore, so you have to link folders to allow them to be accessed. The folder in the link above is in the actual dropbox folder, not in a subfolder, but there is no public folder anymore as far as I can tell (my account was created after the date they stopped giving accounts public folders).
Found out you can still create a “Public” folder for dropbox, but it works the same as the links and only allows me to download the html file, not play the webplayer in the browser.
Oh new update eh, try right-click on the .html file and look for Copy Public Link.
There it is! Apparently “Share link” and “Copy public link” do very different things. Though, when I right clicked on the .html file I was only prompted to “Copy public link” when the file was in the public folder. If it was in any other folder (including the dropbox folder itself) I was promted to “Share link” instead of “Copy public link”. So I guess you do need the public folder after all.
For anyone else who has this problem, this page tells you how to use the public folder and towards the bottom gives you a link to add a public folder to your dropbox if you don’t have one. Even though they say that sharing links is the same as having a public folder…
“Dropbox links give you everything you need to share and preview files and folders. However, if you’re just a diehard fan of Public folders, click here to enable one on your account.”
…this is not the case, at least as far as I can tell with getting the webplayer to play. Thanks a lot for the help rvsarmy!
I got used to the Public folder way, good thing I bumped into your thread and remembered the new dropbox update. Glad it worked for you, Cheers!
