I can't open Unity (The Engine)

Problem

I’m having trouble getting Unity (The editor) to open up after creating a project on Unity Hub.

I click into the projects, it changes the “Modified” timestamp; but nothing ever opens up. I’ve checked the task manager and it doesn’t open up.

I have also tried opening up the Unity editor directly (by searching for it in Finder and opening it up there, but it never opens up).

Computer I’m Using

  • M5 Macbook Pro 16", 24gb, 1TB,
  • OS is MacOS: Tahoe 26.4.1 (25E253)

It should not be a problem since all the Unity Editors say its “Apple Silicon supported”

What I’ve tried by fixing

  • Reinstalling Unity Hub (deleting and redownloading)
  • Turning computer off/on again after redownloads
  • Using different Unity editor versions i.e. 6000.0.74f1 vs 6000.4.5f1

Another Problem perhaps?

In my disk, after the projects are done “downloading” from the templates, they have an empty assets folder; I’m not sure why it’s not downloading correctly - is it supposed to be like this? (Shown below).

Hurry to check the editor logs. Hit google for where they are on your OS.

Most likely the answer is present there.

If not, uninstall and try another LTS version.

I found the fix, it was to get Rosetta 2 on MacOS. Did this by doing:

softwareupdate --install-rosetta on my terminal

Nice… that used to pop up a warning when you installed / started the software.

Be advised that soon Rosetta is being discontinued, so almost ALL versions of Unity in use to day have a very short leash on Mac.

Native Arm64 installers for Mac are available from the Unity main site download page.

No, don’t use the Rosetta version.

Both Unity Hub and Unity run directly on Apple Silicon.

You probably downloaded the wrong Unity Hub Version.
