Inochi Project - In-Development Online Game for Kids

The “rust”; a malevolent, mechanical disease is slowly infecting the wildlife and population of the Inochi world, all somehow connected to the enigmatic and once revered, now corrupted “Rust King”. The last six houses of the great Shine City have banded together, forming an alliance which will make the final stand against the rust. Will you be the last defender of the Inochi civilisation?[/I]
Inochi is an upcoming online game, aimed at children, in development by ForwardFor. We are a team of 10, artists, modellers, animators and programmers, with years of experience in providing online content for education and games. Inochi was born from a concept of animal-shaped mechs with tiny drivers operating them from the inside. Some of the early concept art shows the animals that were considered, as well as a working title and some poses:

Over time the story was fleshed out and the mechanical animals that are the Inochi became their own intelligent species.

At the very beginning of the game the player can build their mech using any combination of parts, paint and textures they have available. Mechs become even further customisable as you make your way through the world. With millions of combinations possible we hope to see each player develop their own unique and personal mech design, as crazy or cool as you want.

Gameplay revolves around two main aspects, combat and exploration. Battles take place throughout the Inochi world to help restore the lands to their pre-rust state, as well as the great battle arenas of Shine City. Mech-tators gather from all around to witness the great battles between the defenders of their world and the captive minions of the evil Rust King. Combat is turn based and features a massive movepool from each of the Inochi house disciplines. The six houses of Shine City each boast their own unique fighting style, and teach the ancient traditions behind it to those they deem worthy.

Exploration is the other main gameplay focus in Inochi, Shine City is host to a multitude of places to hang out; play games at the arcade, grab some new parts, paints or textures for your mech at the shopping mall, watch a battle with friends at the arena, explore the sprawling metropolis of shine, salvaging hidden treasures as you go or even pay a visit to Nana-Panda’s Garden.

Questions? Comments? Let us know what you think, I’ll be updating this thread as we go, gameplay footage is next on our agenda and we’re currently putting together a nice reveal trailer which should hopefully give you a little bit more of an idea of what we’re trying to achieve here. We have our first story teaser on YouTube currently, if you’d like to check it out visit the link below, as well as our Facebook and IndieDB pages. We are so grateful for all of your support and hope you’re as excited as us to see Inochi become a reality.
Thanks, Sam.

Training areas in game will be themed 3D platformer-style environments where you can train your mech in agility, strength, endurance and other stats using an assault course of obstacles, race tracks, collectibles and puzzles. Earn XP whilst trying to complete achievements associated with each training area. Compete against friends scores and time trial records.

Our prototype training area below was the first to be built, with six Inochi house-themed training areas currently in production. Want to focus on agility training? Visit the Speedy Panda Racecourse. Need to toughen your mech with some endurance exercises? Try Big Gorilla’s Jungle Gym. Why not sharpen your mind with some mental challenges at Crafty Croc’s?

Here’s a nice preview of our customisation interface, this will be the first place new players go to create their mech.

Looks fun! Has a real happy feel to it

Looks crisp! I like the character selection window.

Customization is looking ace, some of the best visuals I’ve seen in unity!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it’s good to know we’re not a million miles away with our vision.

Firstly, here’s a gif from one of our panda-themed environments, we’re currently gathering all the in-game and cinematic footage we have to include in our trailer:

and a larger still for some detail…

We’ve tried to combine aspects of futuristic, robot-ruled cities with the traditional architecture and landscapes associated with their culture and history.

I’ve also set up my own personal twitter account which I’ll use to post programming and development related updates, the main twitter account for Inochi was aimed at the target audience’s age group, and not always the best place to go if you wanted the technical details on what we’re doing. I’ll try to update it alongside this but more frequently with smaller segments, you can follow me here.

Thanks once again everyone and feel free to get in touch, we love hearing from you
Sam.

The new images of the panda environment are looking really nice, keep up the good work!

Hello again everyone, some new updates for you all.

Here’s two screenshots of the rabbit and chick themed battle arenas:

Our teaser trailer will be out very soon, your patience will soon be rewarded.

Your links seems broken.
