Due to security requirements and review compliance, we were forced to upgrade Unity , and immediately after the upgrade this issue started happening only on iOS 17 devices .
The application freezes at launch only on iOS 17 . (Unity 2022.3.672f)
The screen stays black indefinitely.
The same build works on iOS 16 , iOS 18, iOS 26 without any problems.

Unfortunately all this mess is due to CAMetalDisplayLink.
They added this new DisplayLink because it was generating frame rate drop when app is put on background for iOS26+
With CAMetalDisplayLink activated it raised 2 new issues :
- Hang at launch on iOS 17
- Hang (graphic engine timeout) after around 30 min of session.
We tried to have an hybrid where CAMetalDisplayLink is activated only for iOS26+ and CAMetalDisplayLink for prior version.
This fixed the hang at start on iOS 17, but we still have hang of graphic engine timeout after 30 min of session.
Unity decided to roll back to CADisplayLink which will fix your issue (you need to find a version without CAMetalDisplayLink activated by default or a new version that disable it again).
But anyway you will still have a drop of frame rate on iOS26 users.
