Iphone Pro vs Standard Unity Pro and licensing

Hi

Had a little question regarding the licenses. Didn’t see the answer in the FAQ.

I have unity free (PC) and unity iphone ($300 ver) MAC

In the near future i will be releasing to ipad. I intend to remove the splash screen to add my own etc so will be upgrading to pro.

Im wondering…do I need to upgrade BOTH versions to pro?
Or if I upgrade only unity free to unity pro is there features that I will miss out on just using the iphone (non-pro version) And by features I mean ones that are actually fairly essential.
Ive had a look at the comparison chart already but Im not experienced enough to judge what is essential vs nice to have.
I am thinking I may use the reduced price offer whilst available, and leaning toward the Unity Pro sine it would cover more options (is that correct?)

With this 1 license I can install on BOTH on my PC (development station) and my Mac (deployment station) correct?

Lastly. In the coming of V3 , unity and unity iphone will integrate better is that right? Each time I copy a project across I have to fix stuff at the moment. Will the V3 help reduce all this?

Thanks heaps all, apologies if this is covered in depth some where else.

You can use the Unity Pro license for both the Mac and the PC. Unity iPhone only works on the Mac anyway (because it relies on Xcode). Unity 3.0 will have the same basic editor for all platforms, so the integration between iPhone and desktop projects will indeed be tighter.

kool

So to remove the splash screen from the iphone do I need iphone pro? (as opposed to unity pro)

What benefits would having unity pro if my release platform is initially ipad?
Are the main benefits in unity pro better support for igher spec PC/Mac for shadows/shading/fx etc?

Cheers

you need unity pro to be able to buy iphone pro (its a pro addon)
so you would need both if you want to remove the splashscreen in an iphone game

AH! Wel…that is a definitive answer!!

thanks!

Hi I what I have been wondering is this; a client wants an android project. That means I have to buy Android Pro and Unity Pro right? But here’s the thing I have the $400 version of IOS. Does the fact I have to buy Android Pro mean I have to spend out on IOS pro now too even if I don’t need it at the mo, and can’t afford it, especially after splashing out on the other 2! (I would love too at one point of course, but Christmas comes only once a year!)

No, you don’t have to buy iOS Pro.
