ABOUT THE ROLE
aboutGOLF is seeking an experienced contract Unity Developer with a strong focus on UI/UX to lead the re-polish and redesign of the customer journey across our suite of golf simulation products. As a contractor, you will own the end-to-end in-game experience — from first boot to post-round stats — ensuring every screen feels intuitive, visually refined, and purpose-built for golfers of all skill levels.
You will work closely with the Product, Art, and QA teams to translate design goals into polished, performant Unity interfaces, establishing new UX patterns that elevate aboutGOLF’s simulators. This is a project-based engagement with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Audit and re-polish existing UI across all aboutGOLF Unity titles, identifying friction points and visual inconsistencies in the current customer journey.
Design and implement new UI/UX flows — including onboarding, course selection, gameplay HUD, scoring, settings, and post-round summaries — using Unity UI Toolkit and/or uGUI.
Build reusable, scalable component libraries and design systems within Unity to maintain visual consistency across products.
Partner with artists and designers to translate mockups and wireframes into pixel-perfect, animated Unity interfaces.
Optimize UI performance for target hardware (framerate, draw call budgets, asset memory), ensuring smooth experiences on simulator PCs and embedded systems.
Implement accessibility best practices including readable typography, contrast ratios, and controller/keyboard navigation support.
Define and enforce UI coding standards, naming conventions, and asset pipeline guidelines for the team.
Conduct playtesting sessions and incorporate feedback to iteratively improve the customer experience.
Stay current with Unity UI/UX trends and tools, proactively advocating for new approaches that benefit the product.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of professional Unity development experience with a demonstrable portfolio of shipped UI/UX work.
Deep proficiency in Unity UI Toolkit (UIElements) and/or the legacy uGUI system, including custom controls, stylesheets (USS), and data binding.
Solid understanding of UX principles — information architecture, user flows, interaction design, and usability heuristics.
Strong C# skills with experience writing clean, maintainable UI logic including MVP/MVVM patterns.
Experience with Unity Animator and DOTween (or equivalent) for UI animations and transitions.
Familiarity with UI performance profiling tools (Unity Profiler, Frame Debugger) and draw-call optimization.
Comfort working with version control (Git/Perforce) in a collaborative team environment.
Strong visual sensibility — ability to speak the language of design and work hand-in-hand with artists.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in the golf, sports simulation, or interactive entertainment industry.
Background in UX research, wireframing, or prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe XD).
Exposure to Unity Addressables and asset bundle pipelines for UI assets.
Familiarity with localization workflows and multi-language UI layouts.
Experience shipping Unity titles on Windows PC / dedicated simulator hardware.
Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) applied to game interfaces.
