My library folder is often exploding to several hundred gigabytes causing unity to crash when it eats my SSD. How can I preven this? Im not entirely sure what the cause is?
adding third party assets, or significant of your own, or upgrading versions usually is the main cause, but if you upgrade removing library is also the done thing
6.3 LTS is the version that is Recommended for production for now. Did you try it?
If you need 6.4 for some reason, please submit a bug report via Unity Bug Reporter as well. Also, attach the internal number that you will receive via Email after submitting. Only a post with such a number makes sense here on Discussions.
What’s the size of the Assets folder? The Library is commonly well over 80-90% of the entire project folder’s size, so if you have tens of gigabytes under Assets/ it wouldn’t surprise me if the Library grows to hundreds of GB. More so if you switch to various build platforms often.
When it crashes, check the editor.log and post it here, this may provide some clues specifically the crashlog dumps near the end.
If you haven’t done so yet: delete the Library/ and Obj/ folders entirely with project closed. Next project open will take longer but it guarantees you don’t have stale/corrupt artifacts which, when accessed, actually cause the crash.
Assets folder is 3.94 gigs, doesn’t seem too unreasonable? I delete the Library folder every time this happens but i havent tried obj.
Yes, that shouldn’t cause the Library to bloat beyond 100 GB. There must be something going on, check the editor.log in the next crash.
