Not sure where to put this, I mean would be nice to see some actual improvements to the project tab in unity… so I’ve adjusted my layout and much prefere have a single column project window taking up the full height length possible of the unity window frame
, however making another project tab and using that for other 2nd column file view leaves me with with a same 1st column that is completely redundant, and I’d rather have a lot more visible space of folder structure simply because navigating through different assets is always a pain in ass with unity not providing any sort of better management of going back forth to things or setting bookmarks easily etc (many things could be done to improve this) for me though a better layout would be a start… so screenshot provided of what I’m wanting to achieve…So what you are proposing is to divide Project into Project-tree tab and Project-files tab?
Er, have you tried docking it differently? Seems like there’s plenty of room. Mine takes up 50% of my desktop at 1440p and there’s bags of room for anything I want to do.
If I open up VFX ed, I still have the right side (remaining 50%) of my desktop to play with. Typically, it’s given to visual studio.
@hiip that isn’t what I’m going for… that is how I used to have it… but I much prefer the project window to have as much vertical space as possible, (thus I’ve put a separate project that with single column up along the side of the unity window frame) with the files column in that is just another project tab showing in the position I used to have it(excpet I no longer need it showing the folder view in the column layout)… this way navigating and folder structure is much faster with being able to see as many asset folders/sub folders as possible…I mean I thought it would have been pretty obvious from the screenshot of how I’m wanting it.
You’ve got it how I used to have it and it was annoying as you get so little vertical space to see folder structure/.
pretty much yes, the option to do would be handy
- that way you’ve put the project settings tab below the inspector just wouldn’t do for me, it’s a waste of space as you rarely need to work with the project settings, which is why I have it in the project/console panel frame as I can see it there when I need to… while the inspector view I want as much vertical space to show components/options etc as possible all the time… always a sht ton of scrolling todo in that window

It’s possible to remove “that column” from 1. The drop-down on the upper left of the project view lets you select between “one column” and “two column” layout, you currently have it in “two column”
Yeah but for the point of picture example, I don’t want files showing the first project panel, as it just clutters the view I just want that to show folder structure, while in the 2nd project tab I’d want that to show files(and maybe folders as an option) but yeah you can have the same 1 column view in the 2nd project tab…
Would be nice if they just improved it.
They already “improve” prefab system. It is better to leave everything as it is.
yeah true, but one can hope they get it right, right? They seem to have gone silent again on the prefabs and what is going on with that being ‘improved’. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Well, they were improved massively.
Anyway, we’re also still waiting on a horizontal scrollbar for the hierarchy/project windows.
If a mod could just move this feature request topic to another part of the board more relevant now… as 2019.2 will be dead sub forum soon.
Loving these suggestions!! Pinging this in the hope of supporting the importance of this request ![]()
